Continue ReadingWe recently updated our sophomore class rankings in the state of VA, and we will take a look at each positional ranking from guards, wings and forwards. Obviously some of these players are positionless players that can fit in multiple spots, but we did our best to categorize them based on their skillset.
Here’s a look at the top 5 power forwards and centers in the new rankings.
5) Wyatt Norton Wyatt Norton 6'8" | C Bishop O'Connell | 2025 State VA | 6’8” C | Madison (#12 Overall)
Norton is quickly emerging as one of the best big men prospects in the NOVA area, if not the entire state, as he continues to improve and shows a lot of tools moving forward. The 6’8” big man is athletic and moves well for his size as he can run the floor and is an explosive leaper as a finisher, he can protect the rim and rebounds well on both ends and he shows the ability to stretch the look too. He’s a good finisher in the paint and has continued to get better every time we see him.
4) Jaquan Womack Jaquan Womack 6'7" | PF Paul VI | 2025 State #284 Nation VA | 6’8” PF | Paul VI (#9 Overall)
Womack at times gets overshadowed playing on one of the top teams in the country, but he’s shown that he’s one of the top prospects in the WCAC and would likely be a go-to guy on almost every other team in the area. The 6’8” forward is as versatile as they come as he’s built like a linebacker and is strong in the paint, he can step out on the perimeter where he has good ball skills and can put it on the deck and he can knock down shots from deep as well. He’s very athletic for his size and is a walking mismatch that is hard to match up with at any level.
3) Martez Harris Martez Harris 6'10" | PF Cape Henry | 2025 State #269 Nation VA | 6’10” PF | Cape Henry (#5 Overall)
Harris is one of the best prospects in the 757, as the 6’10” forward is a versatile player with a lot of upside moving forward with the tools that he has. About 2 years ago Harris was a 6’6” wing who primarily played on the perimeter and was known as an athletic shooter, then he hit a growth spurt and filled out and now is learning how to balance his outside game with his new inside presence at his size. He’s good in the mid-post area where he can post and hit fall-aways, he an stretch the floor with his shooting ability and he can get extra opportunities on the offensive glass.
2) Kareem Stagg Kareem Stagg 6'8" | PF IMG | 2025 State #399 Nation FL | 6’8” PF | Oscar Smith (#2 Overall)
Stagg possibly has the most upside of any prospect in the 2025 class, as the 6’8” power forward has great physical and athletic tools and is starting to round out his offensive game. Stagg is a naturally explosive athlete who is a big time shot blocker with great timing, he’s starting to be able to catch and explode above the rim and finish above the rim in the paint and he is starting to show touch out to the three-point line with some solid moves in the paint as well. He’s very mobile and runs the floor well, he has long arms and is likely still growing and he’s only scratching the surface with how good he can be moving forward.
1) Christian Gurdak Christian Gurdak 6'9" | C Gonzaga | 2025 State #156 Nation MD | 6’10” C | Paul VI (#1 Overall)
Gurdak gets the slight nod for top player in this class again in the updated rankings, as he’s the most polished big man in the class and has shown over the past few years he can play with and against the best for a nationally ranked PVI team. The 6’10” center nicknamed “big country” is a load in the paint with soft touch around the rim, he’s surpassingly quick with his spins and movements in the post and he gets great position to seal and rebound on the offensive glass. He has great hands and footwork in the post and when he gets set up deep he’s almost impossible to stop. He plays a pivotal role for this PVI team, and if he were elsewhere he’d put up a regular double-double and dominate on a gamely basis.
