SubscribeWe recently updated our junior class rankings in the state of VA, and we will take a look at each positional ranking from guards, wings and forwards. Obviously some of these players are positionless players that can fit in multiple spots, but we did our best to categorize them based on their skillset.
Here’s a look at part two of the top point and combo guards in the new rankings.
15) Jamari Hodnett Jamari Hodnett 6'2" | PG Bishop Ireton | 2024 State VA | 6’2” PG | Bishop Ireton (#56 Overall)
Hodnett is one of the most underrated players in the WCAC, and he is the ultimate glue guy who is an x-factor for his team. He has good size at the guard position and is a good playmaker who sees the floor and delivers passes on point, he plays with a great motor and is a good rebounder for his position and he really thrives defensively with his ability to stay in front and wreak havoc all over the place.

Sisco is part of one of the top NOVA area backcourts at Freedom, and he’s a super talented guard who can both create for himself and others with the ball in his hands. He’s creative and shifty off the bounce with the ability to touch the paint or create space, he can score the ball in different ways and is a crafty finisher and he has good vision and passing ability too.
13) Kenneth Duguzman | 5’10” PG | Potomac (#44 Overall)
Deguzman joined an already talented Potomac squad this season and has helped them become one of the top schools in the NOVA area with a chance to compete for a state championship this year. He’s an old school type of floor general that stays under control and handles pressure well, he has great feel for the game and sets the tone on both ends of the floor and he picks his spots and scores it efficiently when he needs to.

VA
| 6’1” PG | Alexandria City (#40 Overall)

Robinson has really stepped his game up this year for an Alexandria City team that is having a great season, and he’s been a big reason why. The 6’1” lefty is putting up big numbers both as a scorer and a distributor, he shoots the lights out from deep both off the catch and off the bounce and his quickness makes him a good defender and gives him the ability to touch the paint easily.
11)
Julian Rivera

Highland | 2025
VA
| 6’1” PG | Highland School (#39 Overall)

Rivera has stepped up big time this year for Highland who lost quite a bit of their top players from last year, but that hasn’t mattered as they’re currently ranked #2 in VISAA D2. Rivera has been fantastic and has shown fantastic leadership and floor general ability, he makes shots consistently from deep and he brings great effort on both ends of the floor doing all of the little things.

Johnson transferred to Massanutten where he’s playing up against post grad players, and his game is starting to round out and develop nicely over the season. At 6’4” he has good size and long arms that he uses defensively to get deflections, he’s shifty off the bounce and knows how to get in the paint where he can make plays for others or finish in the paint and he’s showing improvement in his ability to make shots from deep too.

Radford | 2024

| 6’2” CG | Radford (#27 Overall)

Cormany is perhaps the best guard you’ll come across in the New River Valley, and he’s been fantastic for Radford this year as their leading scorer. He’s grown to 6’3” and has filled out his body nicely to be able to play through contact when he gets downhill, he’s a dead eye shooter from deep with a quick release and deep range and he’s able to create space off the bounce and make tough shots from multiple levels.
8) Kennard Wyche Jr. | 5’8” PG | Varina (#25 Overall)

Wyche was an All State selection last year while helping Varina to a state championship, and this year he’s their go-to guy and has put up huge numbers throughout the year. He’s unbelievably crafty with the ball in his hands and is very adept at finishing over taller players and drawing contact to get to the line, he’s a big time on ball defender who can guard the length of the floor and make ball handlers uncomfortable and he’s an excellent playmaker who makes players around him better.

Catholic | 2024

| 6’3” CG | Catholic (#23 Overall)

Rickards is perhaps the most overlooked player in the 757, as he’s been solid for Catholic for the past three years and has them sitting as one of the top teams in VISAA D1 this year. The 6’3” combo guard is super well rounded with the ability to play on or off the ball, he scores it efficiently from all three levels and he has a knack for making plays on both sides of the ball. He impacts the game across the board and is a natural talent who makes the game look easy.
