Expert Analysis
Van Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Riveria was undeniably impressive as the focal point for The Highland School in capturing the Virginia Private School Championship. He set the tone as a leader, both through his playmaking and three-level scoring abilities, and consistently stepped up to assert himself as a leader. Riveria is a skilled lefty, crafty guard with reliable creation skills and a smooth jumper. He mixes it up from all levels offensively and is comfortable with or without the ball in his hands. Riveria provides effort defensively and rebounds well for his size/position.

Rivera wills his ways to different spots on the floor by being an assertive paint toucher. He has great touch around the bucket. Rivera plays best when the lights are shining and never seems to be fazed by the moment. He lets the game come to him and is meticulous with his decision making. Rivera can make others better. His strong frame allows him to absorb contact. He is someone that scholarship programs should be recruiting.

a couple of times this summer, and a few things always stand out. Julian’s passing and defensive motor are top-notch. Julian is your consummate glue guy, and he will fit into any situation you put him in. When he drives to the rim, he is an excellent passer, and Julian is a reliable scorer when asked of him. This season, Highland will again be one of the best teams in the DMV, and Julian will be the guy making winning plays at the end of the game.

was Highland’s most impressive player. Julian played outstanding on both ends and in an otherwise inefficient offensive game from both teams, Julian was able to score efficiently. He had 14 points, and even being one of the smallest guys on the court, he hauled 12 rebounds. He was also phenomenal on defense, with a handful of steals and blocks.

Rivera just impacts winning. A heady PG that plays incredibly hard from start to finish, he has a nose for the ball and gets to 50/50 balls and long rebounds while playing scrappy defense. The passing has improved, he’s seeing his reads a play ahead and directing traffic much more vocally. I expect some of the Ivy and Patriot schools sniffing around to pull the trigger after seeing him play this summer
