In this article we’ll take a look at some more point guards who should be getting heavy small college interest.
Hamilton has been the engine for STVM this season, making huge leaps as a scorer. With big time games against top competition, Hamilton has drastically improved his stock throughout this winter and continues to get better and better. A bit of an unorthodox game, Hamilton is very small and was nicknamed ‘Fat’ but he gets to the spots he needs to on the court. Hamilton has become one of the more dangerous pull-up shooters in Ohio and he harasses ball handlers defensively. Based on his production against top competition, Hamilton should be a top priority for Division III programs and getting scholarship interest at the Division II and NAIA level. This is a guard who will help you win at the next level!
Highlights
I recently scouted Walsh in a playoff game for Elyria where he played a big role in his team advancing to the next round of the tournament. Walsh is a tough point guard who really puts in great effort defensively with his on-ball pressure and communication in help side defense. One of the most productive guards in northeast Ohio, Walsh scored 20 PPG as a Junior and 17 PPG as a senior and was named first team all northeast lakes district. Walsh is an instant impact player at the Division III level and if he fills out physically, has the potential to transfer up levels later in his college career.
Another undersized point guard, Alexander ‘Man Man’ Parks is another one of the toughest competitors in the state. An excellent passer, Parks has good feel with the ball in his hands and averaged 4.6 assists per game. Parks is also a dangerous shooter from the outside, knocking down 40% of his 3-point looks this season. Combine these offensive skills with tough defense and Parks is one of the best guards in SW Ohio. Recently took an official visit to Ohio Dominican, Parks should have interest from Division II, III and NAIA programs looking to add toughness from the point guard position.
Molton really burst onto the scene as a Junior, helping lead Gilmour all the way to the state title game. Molton is a creative scorer at the rim with a variety of finishes he can use to avoid shot blockers. Molton plays with good pace and is a good pull-up shooter as well. Watching his highlights, it’s also easy to see Molton’s impressive passing ability, finding open teammates. I think Molton is a top target for Division III programs around the region and could boost his stock by leading Gilmour on another long playoff run.
Scott is the most athletic prospect discussed in this article and has some real talent with his burst, quickness and explosiveness when attacking the basket. Recently had one of the best games of his career with a 30 point and 5 steal performance against Massillon Washington in the sectional finals. When Scott’s jumper is falling, he’s one of the tougher guards to stop in northeast Ohio. Archbishop Hoban went on a deep playoff run last season with Scott playing a key role, if he can do it again and lead his team back to the regionals, his stock could improve to college coaches.
