Lake City withstood several Goodhue runs to earn a two score victory on Friday night led by [player_tooltip player_id='1284140' first='Hunter' last='Lorenson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1225623' first='Ryan' last='Heise'].

One. Hunter's Run. Goodhue used a few different defenses to try and slow the Tigers but the one thing that left them powerless was [player_tooltip player_id='1284140' first='Hunter' last='Lorenson']'s jumper off of dribble separation from 14 feet and out. Anything closer to the rim Goodhue got extra hands on attempts but when Lorenson reeled off six straight perimeter jumpers the game jumped from a two/three score game to a 15 point game. The burst out of Hunter's separation and the lift on his attempt are special and he scored his 20 points on 8 of 13 shooting. Hunter is going to be a scholarship guard prospect, his touch and quickness are at a level that many guards can't match.

Two. Heise. Goodhue did a great job limiting [player_tooltip player_id='1284149' first='Jaden' last='Shones'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1284166' first='Keegan' last='Ryan'] but the Lorenson jumper and [player_tooltip player_id='1225623' first='Ryan' last='Heise'] were too much for the Cats. The edge that Heise had was his agility and his size. Ryan was able to get to a post move, he was able to get a dribble down, and he was able to get ahead in transition to score a much needed 19 points for Lake City. Again, Heise is a steal for Upper Iowa and his commitment to defense at his size and agility are going to give him a chance to play early.

Three. Defense. Both of these teams had good defensive gameplans and it left most of the scoring to the three players that could get loose to score and that was Heise, Lorenson, and [player_tooltip player_id='962224' first='Will' last='Opsahl']. I thought both teams did a great job defensively starting with Lake City who got length on Opsahl all game and did a great job with their help. I also liked how they pressured Will and at times forced the ball out of his hands. As for Goodhue, they were able to take away a lot of the Lake City balance and if Lorenson doesn't have a great day shooting their game plan may have worked out for a win.

Four. [player_tooltip player_id='962224' first='Will' last='Opsahl']. I continue to be impressed how [player_tooltip player_id='962224' first='Will' last='Opsahl'] makes such a big impact on the game for Goodhue but does it without forcing much (until he has to). He moves the ball, handles the ball, rebounds the ball, creates for himself off the dribble, and has a really pretty perimeter shooting touch that I feel like he could use almost more. Last night Goodhue had to rely on Will for offense even more and Will did make three triples shooting 9 of 21 for his 25 points. The Tiger length bothered him around the rim some but all in all, it was a 25 point, 10 rebound, 4 assist game.

Five. [player_tooltip player_id='1225627' first='Adam' last='Poncelet'] The Number Two. One of my biggest curiosities of this game was if Goodhue had the depth of scoring options to make a run to the state tournament considering how tough Section 1A is. And after watching last night I like their chances more. [player_tooltip player_id='1225627' first='Adam' last='Poncelet'] is a good versatile number two that scored 14 points on ten shots, he moved the ball to create for others, rebounded seven times and I think does enough for this team to make the run they want. With Spring Grove and Hayfield in the section it's tough but Goodhue has as good of talent, depth, and coaching as anybody.
