Game Report: University 67, Bishop Chatard 51

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On Tuesday night, I hit the road back to Indianapolis for a showdown between University and Indianapolis Chatard. University came in at 12-1 on the season with their lone loss coming to Mount Vernon (Fortville) in the Indianapolis Roncalli Holiday Tournament. The Trailblazers are currently ranked #3 in 2A, and they are currently one of the favorites to represent the Southern half of the state in the State Finals. University is led by a pair of long wings with 2023 <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1556354' first='Andre' last='Ozlowski']</strong> and 2024 <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1578464' first='Sabien' last='Cain']</strong>. Indianapolis Chatard came into the game at 11-6 on the season, but the Trojans had lost three of their last four games to Indianapolis Chatard, Brebeuf Jesuit, and Greenfield-Central. Their lone win since January 19 came against Muncie Burris. Chatard is led by their inside-out duo of 2023 wing <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1402477' first='Robert' last='Davidson']</strong> and 2026 point guard <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1560973' first='Ethan' last='Roseman']</strong>.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Both teams came out in the first quarter playing sloppy basketball. Each team committed five turnovers in the first quarter of action, but Davidson helped Chatard get out to an early 11-6 lead thanks to 7 early points. However, University came right back with a 6-0 run to end the quarter to take a 12-11 lead after one.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In the second quarter, the Trailblazers picked up where they left off as they continued to dominate the paint. Cain and Ozlowski were able to drive the ball inside and either finish through traffic or get to the foul line. University would extend the lead to 18-11 with a 12-0 run. Chatard would get a couple of buckets in the lane to cut the lead back to 5, but <strong>Seth Hogg</strong> would end the half with 7 unanswered points including a corner three at the buzzer to lead 28-16 at the break. Chatard was plagued by their 9 turnovers and 0-5 shooting from behind the arc. Hogg would lead the Trailblazers with 10 at the break, and Cain would add 9. For Chatard, Davidson was the majority of their offense with 10 points.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Chatard came out hot in the second half, scoring on their first three possessions, including back-to-back triples from <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1556368' first='Drew' last='Knapp']</strong> and <strong>Nolan Stiffler</strong> to cut the lead back to two possessions. However, three straight turnovers and buckets by four different players allowed University to grow the lead back to double figures. Knapp would answer with a three plus the foul, and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1402477' first='Robert' last='Davidson']</strong> would follow it with an and-one inside. This 7-0 run in under a minute would cut the lead back to 3, and a three at the buzzer by <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1560973' first='Ethan' last='Roseman']</strong> would make it a 2-point game. University would lead 41-39 at the half after nearly blowing a 12-point halftime lead.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In the fourth quarter, University turned it on completely just completely dominated both ends of the court. The Trailblazers continuously attacked the rim and scored it inside with four consecutive buckets to start the quarter. However, Chatard was able to hang on during the run to keep the lead at 5 at 49-44 following another bucket from Davidson. Cain then knocked down back-to-back threes with the second being a pull-up in transition. The Trailblazers would continue their momentum with a 16-3 run to blow the game wide open and grab a 67-51 win on the road. University shot 10-11 from the floor with assists on 7 of 10 field goals in the fourth quarter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>2024 guard <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1578464' first='Sabien' last='Cain']</strong> led both teams with 24 points including 13 in the fourth quarter. He also added 6 boards. 2024 guard <strong>Kahmi Bracey</strong> added 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals in an all-around performance. 2023 wing <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1556354' first='Andre' last='Ozlowski']</strong> dominated the paint with 12 points, 5 steals, and 4 rebounds, and <strong>Seth Hogg</strong> added 10 points all in the first half of action. For Chatard, 2023 wing <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1402477' first='Robert' last='Davidson']</strong> led the way with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Guards <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1560973' first='Ethan' last='Roseman']</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1556368' first='Drew' last='Knapp']</strong> added 14 points and 9 points in the loss.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With the win, University improves to 13-1 on the season. The Trailblazers return to the court on Thursday evening as they host Traders Point Christian at 7:30 PM. Indianapolis Bishop Chatard falls to 11-6 with losses in four of their last five. The Trojans will hit the court again on Thursday as they travel down to Indianapolis Roncalli for a Circle City Conference matchup.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
