The regular season is starting to wind down and teams are starting to really separate themselves from the rest of the pack in all four classes. There were some major losses this past week that led to some shakeup in the rankings, including a new #1 team in Class 2A. We detail some of the key movement below. New rankings from the Iowa High School Athletic Association will be released tomorrow. Our Class 2A committee will meet tonight.
The top three teams remain the same in Class 1A, led by North Linn (16-0) and Grand View Christian (16-0). Gladbrook-Reinbeck (15-1) soars back into the top five, checking in at #4, following their big win over then-2A #2 Aplington-Parkersburg. Marquette Catholic (17-2) joins the rankings for the first time this season following a big win over crosstown rival Bellevue, who drops out of the rankings.
Western Christian (14-1) is the new top-ranked team in Class 2A. The Wolfpack are riding a 13-game winning streak and take over the top spot following Central Lyon’s (13-1) loss to West Lyon. The Lions fall just one spot to #2, while West Lyon (11-3) moves into the top five, checking in at #5.
Bondurant-Farrar (15-0) continues to pace Class 3A, the lone undefeated team left in the class. The class continues to be topsy-turvy, with the Bluejays being the only team that remained in the same spot this week. MOC-Floyd Valley (13-2), Marion (14-3), Clear Lake (13-1), and Humboldt (11-2) round out the top five.
The most change comes in Class 4A, where three new teams have joined the rankings. The top four in the class remain the same – Kennedy (14-0), Waukee (16-2), Waukee Northwest (14-2), and Valley (12-3), with Sioux City East (16-0) moving into the top five. Norwalk (12-3) enters the rankings for the first time this season following a big week that saw them grab wins over Pella Christian, Indianola, and Ames. Waterloo West (13-2) and Ames (11-5) join the rankings at #8 and 9, respectively.
