Over the past week I’ve scouted four individual games, Dublin Scioto @ Westerville South, Walsh Jesuit @ Archbishop Hoban, Middletown @ Hamilton and Alliance @ Louisville. In this article I’ll spotlight some wings and forwards who made an impact in these games.
Vowles shot the crap out of the basketball in the first half against Walsh Jesuit in a big-time rivalry game. Vowles moved well without the basketball and shot it with confidence when he caught it. A buzzer-beater to end the first quarter helped give his team an extra boost and they eventually held on for the impressive victory. Vowles is a wing who can really shoot it and comes from a winning high school program, those are traits small college coaches are looking for.
One of the biggest 2026 prospects I’ve scout all year, Greer has good feet for his size and isn’t afraid to get physical with bigs much older than he is. I liked Greer’s ability to score with his back to the basket and he could pass out of double teams. Greer is one of the most productive freshmen bigs in the state and will be a force for years to come.
The GMC contest between Middletown and Hamilton was highly contested and it was the shot-making of Shields off the bench that kept the Middies competitive for a majority of the game. With four 3-pointers, Shields had over half the makes from beyond the arc that his team did in this contest. I also liked some of the athletic traits Shields has, a player to watch over the next few years in the GMC.
Allen has had a big year for Alliance and came out on a mission in their rivalry contest with Louisville. Scoring 10 points in the first four minutes of the game, I thought Allen was on track to score a career high. Allen slowed down in the second half, but I was still impressed with his touch around the basket and his athleticism combined with his pure size. Allen has a couple of skill developments to make, improving his ball handling, right hand and passing, but the athleticism and motor creates a unique skill set for Allen.
Louisville has a nice squad of talent in three separate grades and Gross is coming on strong as he progresses through his Sophomore season. Grown a couple inches since when I saw him last in the summer, Gross had a couple dunks including an impressive alley-oop off the glass thrown by fellow Sophomore Beau Siegfried Beau Siegfried 6’0″ | PG Louisville | 2025 State OH . Gross plays with a good motor, rebounds at a high level and produces on winning teams, a forward to watch in the 2025 class.
