Allen was efficient in Dayton Dunbar’s best win of the season over Pickerington North. Made a few jumpers, cut without the ball and caught a body in transition on the play that swung momentum in the Wolverines favor. The biggest aspect of his game was efficiency, Allen only missed one shot from the floor all game. A good win for Dunbar helps them gain some momentum as they wind down the regular season and start thinking about a playoff push.
Owens was the most impressive prospect on Western Reserve, making plays in a variety of ways. Owens is an impressive athlete and had a couple nice split moves with the basketball, showing his burst, handle and ability to play as a wing. The first bucket of the game was a put-back slam by Owens that sent a message to So Cal Academy. Owens has a solid looking stroke and knocked down a 3-pointer off the catch, continuing to work on that will be a priority throughout his development. Overall I was really impressed by how Owens was physically and his production matched his talent. This will be one of the top players in Ohio’s 2024 class when rankings are updated next week.
Adkins made a ton of shots and was the leading scorer in Western Reserve’s upset win over So Cal Academy. Adkins kept finding himself open from downtown and had the confidence to let it fly often. Once he started to get keyed in on, Adkins had a nice take to the basket where he made a reverse layup. Currently with no offers, I wouldn’t be surprised if this performance doesn’t help jumpstart his recruitment with regional Division II and low major programs. All indications after that game suggest he is a scholarship kid at some level.
Another tough loss for Lutheran East but it wasn’t without the great play from McCulloch, knocking down four 3-pointers and altering a handful of shots at the basket, it was the best game I’ve seen the big man play all season. Really liked his activity on both ends and he even made a couple impressive passes as well. Combine Academy is one of the most athletic teams in the country and McCulloch held his own against their impressive guards and size in the paint. A stock rising game for the Junior big who already has many high major offers.
My favorite new player I’ve seen all weekend, Greene did it all for Pace Academy as they knocked local squad Chaminade Julienne from the ranks of the unbeaten. Greene has a good frame and attacks under control. Defensively his long arms and strong upper body make him tough to push off his spots and his quick hands got deflections. A capable shot-maker as well, Greene has a consistent looking jumper. Greene also uses his strength to finish through contact at the rim. A borderline top 100 prospect in most rankings, Greene is a stud and well deserving of the high major offers he holds.
