New Year resolutions are a long standing tradition and a good way to self reflect on some improvements and changes that individuals may want to make. That includes me and my work. I always have to strive to be better. I’m making a resolution in 2023 to see the 5 post players. This could mean seeing them either more or for the first time.
I really like the game Hutter has developed and the upside he still carries. He’s not a limited big, as he carries soft feet, strong hands and good court vision from the paint. Hutter will be key in the success of his Milford squad, and the good news is, I suspect that he will continue his improvement through March.
Dyksterhouse was terrific as summer carried into fall and he continues to show high level post play. A double-double isn’t just a threat, it’s almost a probability. He has some nice touch underneath and finishes really strong over his left shoulder. Dyksterhouse isn’t just a power big, but has a nice spin move and uses his pivot foot to get open.
There’s been some rumblings in Benzie County about the play of this young man. He’s been a steady and consistent scorer. Benzie Central has some very real talent and has for years now. It’s about time that Pritchett be included on that list.
Vanderwaal is definitely a player to watch in 2023. He’s a quickly developing talent with some length that he uses well. He’s sneaky strong with the ball, holding the ability to finish through contact and in traffic. Vanderwaal has a lot of potential as a high level post player in transition. He seems very comfortable getting up and down the floor.
Larsen is a player that some schools at the next level should become very aware of. The kid can play. He plays good defense, using his strength to control the block. Larsen times his opponents shots well uses that ability to pick up blocks without getting into foul trouble. I’d love to watch Larsen and the Flint Affiliation show out on the Prep Hoops Circuit next spring and summer.
