Lamont Hamilton Jr.
Lamont Hamilton Jr.
Lamont struggled with an injury early in his freshman season, but has now been on a tear for St. Cats. He came into the game scoring 20.3 ppg over his last three appearances, and finished with 19 against Prairie. He’s tough as nails attacking the basket, as he doesn’t shy away from contact, and also showcased a nice spin move to get to the opposite side of the rim and finish. He’s a lefty but also showed touch to score with the right hand. So dangerous when he gets into the paint because he can finish in a variety of ways but always has his eyes scanning the floor for an open man. Flashed his jumper with a three and mid-range pull-up. Defensively Lamont gets after it, and he thrives off of creating turnovers and getting out into the open floor.
You can tell Sam has put in work in the weight room over the past year as he’s toned up, and it’s added a level of quickness to his game off the dribble. He’s always had a nice handle and nose for the basket, and now has the first step to beat his man without needing to over dribble. Against Salam he had a handful of strong takes resulting in a 10-18 shooting performance as well as multiple trips to the free throw line. Also knocked down two 3’s and a mid-range jumper. Defensively his ability to move his feet and also use his body in the paint helped him hold the state’s leading scorer to roughly 8 points below his average. Sam finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds in the win for KCL.
Ahmad Badwan
Ahmad Badwan
Ahmad has been putting up a ridiculous 37.8 ppg this season, and he’s still just a junior. The physically strong wing found success getting to the basket in a close loss to KCL. At 6’3 he has size and a strong frame that allowed him to finish through some bumps when he got to the basket. Tough to stop in transition because of his ability to quickly change directions off the dribble at his size. The jumper wasn’t falling so he was held below his typical scoring output, but still finished with 30 points on the night.
In what started off as a very slow game for Franklin, Will provided the offensive spark needed for them to pull away and come out with the win against Racine Case. The sharpshooting senior started to catch fire from beyond the arc towards the end of the first half and never looked back. He’s one of those players that defenses can’t give an inch of space to, because if you allow him to catch with his feet set, he hits his shot at such a high percentage. Nothing flashy about his game, just consistent production to the tune of 17.6 ppg for the conference leaders.
Evan Moherek Evan Moherek 6’0″ | PG St. Catherine’s | 2023 WI just didn’t seem to be missing in the first half for St. Cat’s on Wednesday. Whether it was from mid-range or three, the senior guard was finding ways to get to his spots and knock down jumpers. Gets good lift on his shot, and does a nice job of recognizing a bad closeout allowing him to blow by the man with one or two dribbles into a mid-range shot. Was a part of the St. Cats defense forcing a good amount of turnovers, and with the ball in his hands he was making smart decisions in the open floor. Finished with 21 points and has been putting together a nice senior season for one of the top D3 teams in the state.
Highlights
Now the focal point for an inexperienced Case team, Termarion has the constant focus of opposing defenses. Despite that, he still found success scoring the ball against a tough Franklin team. Now at 6’2, Termarion is a bit longer but still has that strong and physical frame that makes him so tough to stop around the basket. Has a few different ways to change directions when attacking the basket, and once there he does a great job of absorbing contact and hanging in the air to finish. You’ll notice he always keeps his chin pointed towards the rim, which allows him to finish through contact consistently. Plays with good pace and knows how to make the most out of screens to work his way into the paint. Finished with 22 points in the tough loss.
LaTrevion Fenderson
LaTrevion Fenderson
I think LaTrevion had a few attempts around the basket that he’d like to get back, but despite some of the misses I thought he impacted the game well on the glass. You don’t see many underclassmen his height with the type of strong yet agile frame that LaTrevion possesses, and he’s not afraid to use it to his advantage. He’s so quick off the floor and grabs missed shots with two hands as he’s able to rise up above opposing forwards. Offensively he has a quick second leap to go right back up with it as well. Didn’t show it as much this game, but he has a smooth looking jumper and handles the ball well at his size. Showcased his explosive ability by cutting down the lane, catching a pass, and elevating for a two hand slam in the second half. Finished the game with 14 points and 12 rebounds going up against a stout defense.
