Brett Sommer — G — Hortonville
Even though Sommer hasn’t put up huge numbers this season for Hortonville, his impact has certainly been felt. On Thursday night, the guard played a really solid game. He knocked down some outside shots, played hard on defense, and didn’t make mistakes. Role players deserve love, too. Even though he isn’t a superstar, Sommer has proven himself to be a great player. He helped Hortonville to a big win on Thursday.
Stevie Clark Stevie Clark 6'6" | SF Oshkosh North | 2024 State #322 Nation WI — SF — Oshkosh North
Next to the word smooth in the dictionary, there should be a picture of Clark. The small forward is so much fun to watch on the offensive end of the court. He makes outside shots, finishes well inside, and has a really pretty fade away jumper. Everything that Clark does with the ball in his hands looks so effortless. In the close loss to Hortonville, Clark did all that he could. The SF played an excellent game and nearly dragged his team to a win.
Xzavion Mitchell Xzavion Mitchell 6'6" | SF Oshkosh North | 2025 State #119 Nation WI — PF — Oshkosh North
In a couple of years, Mitchell is going to be scary good. The power forward is dominant in the paint. Even though Hortonville was sending multiple defenders his way all night, Mitchell still found ways to get buckets. He does a nice job of using his size and strength to finish through contact in the paint. I also liked what I saw from Mitchell on the perimeter — his jumper is no doubt improving rapidly.
August Maurer August Maurer 6'4" | PF Hortonville | 2023 State WI — SF — Hortonville
With only a couple of ticks left on the clock in a tied game, Maurer fired a deep three. While the ball was in the air, I thought this was a win for O-North. After all, how many players are able to make a deep three as time expires? Well, it turns out that Maurer is that guy. The shot went in, and Hortonville won the matchup. Maurer was outstanding all night. The small forward made outside shots, got to the free throw line, and played tough defense. College coaches need to recognize Maurer’s talent.
Riley Mueller Riley Mueller 6'0" | CG Hortonville | 2025 State WI — G — Hortonville
Muller’s play was a major reason why Hortonville walked away with the win on Thursday night. Whenever the Polar Bears needed a big play on the offensive end of the court, Mueller was there to step up. He knocked down some timely threes and finished some difficult layups. Only a sophomore, Mueller has plenty of time left to develop as a player. Mueller is a prospect to track moving forward.
Zack Day — C — Hortonville
Day was all over the court in Hortonville’s win. The small forward threw down an incredibly impressive dunk in the first half, which energized his team. Listed at 6-foot-6, Day used his size well to control the paint. I thought that he rebounded well and played great defense. If Hortonville is to make a deep run in March, look for Day to make a major impact.
Carter Strange Carter Strange 5'11" | PG Oshkosh North | 2024 WI — G — Oshkosh North
It is no secret that Oshkosh North’s top two players are going to get up the majority of the Spartans’ shots. This was certainly the case of Thursday night. I liked how Strange didn’t try to do too much. He didn’t force anything and helped his team get into offensive sets. Strange impressed as a role player in the close loss.
