A talented lead guard with some of the best handles in the state, Cavil uses his tight handle and a quick first step to blow by defenders and get to the rim for finishes or to find cutting teammates. He sees the floor well and is a creative passer who has the ball in his hands a ton.
2.) 2023 Kenzie Reed Kenzie Reed 5'11" | PG Kennedy | 2023 State IA (Kennedy) – 6.8
The future Upper Iowa point guard paces one of the state’s most dynamic offenses, with the Cougars putting up 83 points a game. He’s tremendously talented and elite at protecting the ball, posting a 5.7-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. On a team full of talented guards, he’s the one they trust the most with the ball in his hands late.
3.) 2024 Luke Winkel Luke Winkel 6'1" | PG Ankeny Centennial | 2024 State IA (Centennial) – 6.3
A skilled 6-0 lead guard who is enjoying a breakout junior year for the Jaguars, Winkel does an excellent job playing with pace and changing speeds. He sees the floor well and is a talented passer who loves to get others involved. He leads the Jags in scoring at 15.7 points a game with impressive 46-44-79 shooting splits.
4.) 2024 Coy Kipper Coy Kipper 5'8" | PG Pleasant Valley | 2024 State IA (Pleasant Valley) – 6.1
Kipper is a tough, defensive-minded 5-10 point guard who is one of the better on-ball defenders in the class in addition to being a skilled passer. He’s averaging more assists than points (6.0) this season for the Spartans.
5.) 2023 Cade Kelderman Cade Kelderman 6'0" | PG Waukee Northwest | 2023 State IA (Waukee Northwest) – 5.7
The point guard for the top ranked team in the state, Kelderman has been remarkable for the Wolves as a senior, averaging 19.6 points, 5.7 assists, and 2.6 steals on 62-47-85 shooting splits. He’s a physical lefty guard who does a great job passing into his teammate’s shooting pockets.
6.) 2024 Jermilyn Gardner Jermilyn Gardner 5'8" | PG Davenport West | 2024 IA (Davenport West) – 5.6
A lightning-quick 5-9 point guard, Gardner is a creative passer and ball-handler who uses his speed to impact the game on both ends of the floor, averaging 15.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.1 steals in addition to his playmaking.
7.) 2024 Treshaun Brooks (Marshalltown) – 4.4
After appearing in just 10 games last season, Brooks is enjoying a breakout junior year for the Bobcats, averaging 8.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists a game. An athletic 6-0 guard who can break down a defense, he has been a strong tertiary scoring threat and lead ball-handler.
8.) 2023 Tae Jackson (Roosevelt) – 4.4
Jackson is a talented 6-1 point guard who transferred to Roosevelt from Springfield Lanphier (IL). He has been incredibly productive for the Roughriders, averaging 15.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.7 steals a game in addition to his playmaking. He’s a great athlete with a quick first step and great court vision.
9.) 2024 Redek Born Redek Born 6'3" | PG Norwalk | 2024 State IA (Norwalk) – 4.3
A 6-3 combo guard who can fill it up in a hurry (18.2 points a game) or get others involved, Born is willing to take smaller defenders down onto the block and facilitate the offense from there. He has a tremendous feel for the game and is one of the smartest players in the state.
10.) 2025 Tate Perrin (Dallas Center-Grimes) – 4.3
The 5-10 sophomore has stepped into the varsity starting lineup immediately and been extremely productive as their lead guard, dishing out 4.3 assists a game and turning it over less than once a night. He handles the ball, sees the floor, and loves to get his teammates involved.
