ISA was a high priority team for me to watch at this event because this was my first opportunity to scout them this year. With many new faces, it was important to get evaluations on their prospects. Williams stood out the most with his shooting ability from the outside. A skinny wing guard with a smooth stroke, Williams knocked down some deep ones in the fourth quarter to put some separation between the teams. I also thought Williams made some smart reads when attacking the basket and had a couple nice takes to the hoop. I was impressed with a handful of prospects for ISA including Johnny Pierce Johnny Pierce 6’7″ | PF ABC Prep | 2024 State NM and Sonny Williams Sonny Williams 6’0″ | CG ISA | 2023 State OH as well.
Nate Bureau
Nate Bureau
Bureau was on fire in the first quarter, knocking down five 3-pointers. After showing off his elite shooting ability, he used his gravity to get teammates open and pump-fakes to get advantageous situations with the ball in his hands. Fort Erie impressed me with their ball movement and shooting, no player defined this better than Bureau.
Will Allen
Will Allen
Allen was efficient from the floor, scoring a career-high for the Warriors as they gave Medina some trouble in the underdog role. Allen took smart shots, knocking down open spot-up 3-pointers and a couple floaters from the 5–8-foot range. Fairview has a pair of seniors that have led them all year in Jacob Rehor and Colin Meany, while those two didn’t knock down the shots they usually do, they made life easier on Allen and the rest of their teammates by helping them get good looks within the offense.
Klanac shot the ball at an extremely high level from the outside, scoring a game-high 25 points (which was also a career high for Klanac). Medina shares the ball extremely well and a number of different players can hurt you on any given night. On Sunday, it was Klanac knocking down four 3-pointers and also having a couple tough finishes in the lane off two feet. Klanac is a prospect for regional Division III programs to take a look at with his size and shooting ability.
The Saint Edward Eagles are the last remaining unbeaten team in OHSAA Division I and Perusek refused to let his team lose on Sunday against Garfield Heights. Perusek had some crazy finishes, showing off his impressive athleticism in transition. Best in the open court, Perusek can drop dimes and push the tempo for his team. Knocking down a couple 3-pointers, it was the best I’ve seen Perusek shoot it from deep. I’d like to see Perusek limit the turnovers more in the half-court, but the jolt of energy he provides with the ball in his hands has been huge for the Eagles this year. I expect Division III schools to be fighting over Perusek’s commitment and wouldn’t be stunned if scholarship programs came calling as well.
Henry was a mismatch for Garfield Heights with his strength and passing ability out of the low post. Henry could bully skinnier forwards and when the double team came, was quick to fire it to an open teammate. I’d like to see Henry take a leap as a shooter from the outside to help open up his scoring game, but his passing, toughness and size were super valuable for the Eagles in this gritty victory.
A tough loss for Garfield Heights after some difficult games, Marshall was a bright spot for the Bulldogs. His toughness and ability to win loose balls is so huge for one of the top defensive teams in the area. Marshall also attacked the rim with no fear and got to the free throw line numerous times throughout the game. I expect Garfield Heights to bounce back as they have the talent to make a deep tournament run.
