Expert Analysis
Michael Roth | Prep Hoops Scout
Saint Edward has the most balanced team in the state with not a single player scoring over 20 points in any game this season. Perusek is the guy who makes the most plays on this team, attacking downhill and finding teammates. A great athlete, Perusek has some circus shots around the basket that find their way in the hoop. Perusek has all the tools to be an absolute stud at the Division III level but if he develops a capable jumper, the sky is the limit for this senior guard coming from one of Ohio’s top high school programs. Perusek takes on Elyria on Wednesday before a potential district final on Saturday and has excellent grades.

The engine for Saint Edward’s incredible 2022-23 season that just had their unbeaten regular season come to an end on Friday, Perusek has been one of the biggest stock risers in the state. A guy I saw in the summer and was impressed with his athleticism and production, I was unsure how big of an impact Perusek would make in the regular season. Perusek has only gone out and dominated for one of the best teams in the state. His athleticism is elite and his ability to finish at the rim is crazy. Not a threat from the outside shooting the basketball, if Perusek can consistently knock down open jumpers, he has a chance to be an excellent college player. A guard who should be at the top of Division III recruiting boards with scholarship interest, a deep playoff run should add to Perusek’s recruiting interest.

The Saint Edward Eagles are the last remaining unbeaten team in OHSAA Division I and Perusek refused to let his team lose on Sunday against Garfield Heights. Perusek had some crazy finishes, showing off his impressive athleticism in transition. Best in the open court, Perusek can drop dimes and push the tempo for his team. Knocking down a couple 3-pointers, it was the best I’ve seen Perusek shoot it from deep. I’d like to see Perusek limit the turnovers more in the half-court, but the jolt of energy he provides with the ball in his hands has been huge for the Eagles this year. I expect Division III schools to be fighting over Perusek’s commitment and wouldn’t be stunned if scholarship programs came calling as well.

Perusek waited his turn to make an impact for the Eagles but he’s going to have a huge senior season as the floor general for Saint Edward. Perusek had some impressive finishes around the rim and is a tough customer on the defensive end. The Eagles don’t have a superstar like they’ve had in the past, but they have a very balanced team and Perusek has the ability to beat you in a variety of ways. I expect Division III programs to be very interested in Perusek when they watch him this winter.

Perusek didn’t get many minutes as a Junior but based on what I saw over the summer, he’s fully capable of taking over starting point guard duties and thriving under legendary coach Eric Flannery. Perusek is a solid athlete with the strength to outmuscle defenders and plays with good poise as well. I expect small college programs to be very interested once they see what he can do on a varsity floor.
