It’s rare to see an 8th grader getting tons of playing time in Louisville (there are always some exceptions like Kaleb Glenn) but Brown is in a situation where he is getting thrown into the fire early at a brand new school in WEB Dubois. Ja Rye is a volume scorer at the point guard spot and should see his shooting percentages improve over the next few years but he is getting invaluable experience this season for the Lions. He already excels at getting to the free throw line several times a game.
Johnson Central is in the middle of reloading their roster after a long run on top of the region and Slone looks like he’ll be a big time piece for the foreseeable future for the Golden Eagles. Averaging 15 points per game on 43-36-68 splits, Austin is already on his way to becoming an efficient shooting guard who will be a true three level scorer for the next 4 and a half years.
It’s early but it looks like Stinnett could be the best shooter in the 27 class as he’s making 50% of his shots overall and 49% of his threes for the season. Michael Ray is almost exclusively a three point shooter at this point in his career as he’s shot only 7 two pointers and has not attempted a single free throw through 17 games.
Highlights
Another big shooter as an 8th grader, Turner is a starter for a Boyle team that is in the middle of the pack in the 12th region but has the pieces to make a run at Rupp if they get it all together. Guy is knocking down 37% of his threes (best on the team with over 10 attempts) and shooting 84% from the free throw line. As he gets better at finishing through contact, look for Turner to be averaging 18-20 points per game in the next few years.
Averaging 9 points and 8 boards per game for Dubois, Wright is already flashing value as a two way wing/big. One of the most efficient scorers for the Lions, Ferlandas is putting up solid numbers as he’s shooting 45% overall and 38% from deep. Keep an eye on Wright for his long term potential in the 502.
