Continue ReadingThis week I went out to three games. On Tuesday, November 29th I went to Olentangy Orange as I watched the Pioneers pick up a 68-46 win over St. Charles Prep. Then I was in Dublin on Friday and Saturday. I caught Dublin Jerome beating Thomas Worthington 52-38 on Friday and then Dublin Coffman get its first win of the season over Northland 68-47 on Saturday night. This article will cover the under-the-radar players I saw this week in Columbus.
Kuhlman was the most consistent player all night against Thomas Worthington. He did a very good job of starting off the night attacking the basket and getting points near the rim then started to show off his shooting ability as the game went on. He hit a three-point buzzer-beater going into half that gave Jerome a ton of momentum. He ended up hitting some threes in the second half. He is a big guard that is strong and plays his tail off.
Zalewski just has a calm presence about him. He never seems uncomfortable or to be sped up. Plays at the same smooth pace all game on Friday against Dublin Jerome. I wish he was more aggressive because when he was good things happened. He has a nice jumper and showed great footwork in the post. He is a thick strong wing/forward that uses his body well.
Vanness Provitt
Vanness Provitt
Provitt immediately jumps out at you when you walk into the gym. He is super tall with ultra-long arms. He is a pretty coordinated skinny big that moves well. He was a presence in the post all night long as he had multiple blocks abasing Jerome and he was seen playing volleyball around the rim a couple of times leading to put-back points. He is a raw talent but has a great foundation that I think a college team should be willing to work with.
Colin McClure
Colin McClure
McClure played his tail off for Dublin Coffman on Saturday night. He accepted the challenge of guarding King Kendrick and he was face-guarding and applied great pressure all game him. He also did a really good job of breaking Northland’s full-court press. He found open guys all night long and lead the Shamrocks’ offense to a dominant 68-47 win.
Issac Wiley
Issac Wiley
I liked what I saw from Wiley Tuesday night. He was one of the very few guards that seemed comfortable with the defensive pressure that Orange applied. This sophomore has a super quick jumper. Knocked down multiple threes. He is a skinny guard but has some thicker legs so I expect his upper body will catch up in the future. Wiley is a nice player that I think will be a name for St. Charles Prep in his next two years.
Nieves showed flashes of being a very nice guard. Long and skinny off-ball guard that attacks his spots well. He has a good mid-range pull-up game. He elevates very high on his jump shot. Nice jumper. I could see him going off in games where he was able to find some more consistency. I like the game of this 2024 guard.
