Starting with the Prep School Division on Dec 16th the event runs all the way until the Finals of the Platinum division on Dec 22nd. Best thing about the event is the fact that it has different brackets, allowing teams to compete against comparable competition. Here’s a look at some of the top shooters from the event.
Dude didn’t miss. Verna nearly broke the school record for threes in the Quarterfinals, then knocked down several more in the consolation game. Shot it well in catch and shoot and showed the ability to shoot it coming off screens.
He’s phenominal! JMJ was recently named as my top shooter in the state. He doubled down on that by putting on a tremendous showing this week. He checks every box of a shooter, and then creates some more. Shoots it with range, coming off screens, and off the bounce. His shooting after shiftyness, is remarkable, as often times he would leave a defender sprawling with a COD before burrying a jumper.
Abaev was money this weekend. The lefty sniper has terrific positional size, and was able to be accurate from all over the floor. He has a smooth left handed stroke, with texbook form, and a consistent follow through. When he got his feet set he was money from distance.
Virgil was the best tough shot maker I saw all weekend. The lefty did a terrific job of weaving through defenders, playing out of P&R situations and knocking down contested jumpers. He rarely was able to set his feet, as it looked like he was playing against 6 defenders at a time, however he was accurate in conflict, burrying jumpers consistently over outstretched hands.
Barr was one of my Top Snipers and he used the same type of form and accuracy that landed him on the list. He’s a catch and shoot speacialist that was accurate from the three point line. Barr burried several wing threes in the game I watched.
Bradley was another one of the players that made my Top Sniper list. The lefty was lethal in catch and shoot action, and he seemed to never miss from the corners. The North Dakota signee, was a big time floor spacer, burrying threes in both of the games I watched.
Jelo was magnificent. The Utah Tech signee and another one of the players to make the Top Shooters list, brought out the big guns. After spashing threes in game two, he knocked down 8 threes for the defending champs in their game against Durango. The combo guard has a hair trigger and in the gym range.
Matingou is another guy that preferred the corner, but he was an equal oppotunity sniper. The senior guard showed good form, knocking down catch and shoot threes as well as some pull up jumpers and one bounce rhthym three pointers.
The UCLA signee put on a show in front of his future coaches this week. He was his usually deadly accurate self from behind the arc. Mack is so accurate that he genuinely is upset with himself if he misses a shot. He saved his cold blooded assasin(ness) for the finale, hitting a buzzer beater to give his team a win on day 4 of the Platinum bracket.
