Whitney Young Cruises in Opener

Tyrone Slaughter was not on the sideline for Young. Other than that, it was just a regular day at the office for Dolphins. They soared past Zion-Benton to win 73-37. 2023 wing [player_tooltip player_id='1048324' first='Daniel' last='Johnson'] went on a scoring tear. He finished with 26 points and 8 rebounds to lead the way. 2025 wing [player_tooltip player_id='1385300' first='Antonio' last='Munoz'] had 17 points and 6 rebounds. Both Johnson and Munoz were flying all over the floor. Princeton commit [player_tooltip player_id='939057' first='Dalen' last='Davis'] hit four 3's.

[player_tooltip player_id='1385285' first='Melvin' last='Bell'] Returns

After being out several months due to an injury, [player_tooltip player_id='1385285' first='Melvin' last='Bell'] returned to the floor. Coming off the bench, the 2025 guard scored a quick basket inside and saw only a couple minutes in the opening half. He had a dunk and a three pointer early in the third quarter. Another dunk in transition capped off a solid return to the floor. Bell scored 9 points this afternoon.

St. Rita Scores 36 in First Quarter

Bowman (IN) could couldn't keep up with the size and athleticism St. Rita offers. In most cases, they couldn't even get the ball down the floor. Everyone was sharing the ball and playing their roles. [player_tooltip player_id='1157223' first='Nojus' last='Indrusaitis'] had a hot start and would score 21 to lead all scorers. [player_tooltip player_id='1157230' first='Morez' last='Johnson'] also made plays inside with several second chance buckets and easy scores. The defense from [player_tooltip player_id='1157228' first='James' last='Brown'] was terrific. I don't think a single player scored against him down low. Both Brown and Johnson finished with double-doubles. St. Rita Dominated Bowman 91-31.

[player_tooltip player_id='1279761' first='Nashawn' last='Holmes'] Name to Watch

One final player who made a big impact for St. Rita was [player_tooltip player_id='1279761' first='Nashawn' last='Holmes']. The 2023 G plays a role that's more than what's expected of him. His play in the opining quarter was sensational. He converted two and-ones and went cows-to-to-coast for a dunk. He was also an excellent facilitator throughout the day. He finished with 12 points.

Is TF North Underrated?

Believe it or not, TF North was the only unbeaten team heading into this tournament. They took care of Clark in the first round this afternoon, winning 65-40. Junior Chase Abraham had a terrific scoring outing and scored 20 points off the bench. Guard [player_tooltip player_id='1295556' first='Jayden' last='Small'] finished with 15 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. Jevon Warren had 11 points and 6 boards.

Proviso East Stays Strong Against Crete

The Pirates had four players in double-figures in their 84-53 win over Crete-Monee. Senior F [player_tooltip player_id='939056' first='Bryce' last='Coleman'] led the way with 16 points and 8/11 from the floor. This is the fourth school he's played at. [player_tooltip player_id='1048386' first='Jaloni' last='Johnson'] and Michael Robinson followed that up with 12 points. [player_tooltip player_id='1279770' first='Emory' last='Marshall'] was close to a double-double with 9 points and 8 assists.

Intriguing Freshman at Proviso West

Proviso West Freshman Rajan Roberts scored 19 points in the tournament opener this morning. He displayed excellent footwork and found buckers from all over the floor. You also see a player who's capable of breaking past defenders and sharing the rock. It will be interesting to see how Roberts progresses over the coming years.
