Hilcrest - Rich Township

In this semifinal game, the crowd was split in the gym. Between Hilcrest fans and the host school Rich Township. Rich jumped out to an early lead because Hilcrest star [player_tooltip player_id='939051' first='Darrion' last='Baker'] got in foul trouble very quick. Freshman Jamson Coutler scored a few buckets to get Rich out to an early lead until he himself was in foul trouble. The Hawks would eventually get back into the game with strong performances from [player_tooltip player_id='939078' first='Bryce' last='Tillery'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1279765' first='Quentin' last='Heady']. Tillery controlled the pace of the game while Heady was dependent on to score and grab rebounds. Almost close to half time the Hawks had a solid lead until senior guard Sumar Bures exploded on his own 8-0 run to cut Hilcrest lead to three by halftime. In the second half Hilcrest jumped out to another lead behind the play of [player_tooltip player_id='1537985' first='Tolu' last='Samuels']. Samuels was disruptive on defense and he made some key shots at the right moment. Going into the 4th quarter Rich Township would need another lift from Bures who did just that. Made shots from the mid-range as Hilcrest kept guys packed in the painted area which made it hard for the Raptors to drive. Down to the final minutes Rich Township got the game to one point but was never able to make free-throws to put them over and Hilcrest would win.

Hyde Park - Perspectives

Early on it was to up and coming CPS teams battling out for a spot in Friday's championship game. This game started out all Hyde Park as they looked to take out the top scoring guard of the tournament Perspectives [player_tooltip player_id='1352590' first='Gianni' last='Cobb']. The Thunderbirds started off with each player scoring at will jumping out to a double-digit lead. Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='1373451' first='Jurrell' last='Baldwin'] came off the bench and asserted himself immediately and scored 8 points which pushed Hyde Park's lead to 16 points at one point. Right before the half [player_tooltip player_id='1048318' first='KJ' last='Cobb'] hit a running three to make the score respectable at half time. Once the second half started KJ and [player_tooltip player_id='1371072' first='Jakeem' last='Cole'] stepped up big time to trim the lead down. Cobb made some big defensive plays that he turned into points. And Cole stopped settling for threes and started getting to the rim. This slight tweak changed the momentum of the game and cut Hyde Park lead to one going into the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter junior wing [player_tooltip player_id='1541248' first='Tim' last='Handy'] stepped up and made big some big shots for Perspectives but Cam Williford wasn't going out that easy as he went on his own 6 point run. Hyde Park senior Damarion Morris hit some threes throughout the game and was fouled a few times, but there efforts were not enough as the three headed attack of Handy, Cole, and Cobb just was too much. Perspectives would win the game by 10.

DelaSalle - CHAS

In the other game I watched Chicago Agricultural played De La Salle. This was a back and forth early as CHAS jumped out behind the shooting of senior guard James White. De La Salle answered back with some buckets from [player_tooltip player_id='1285485' first='Richard' last='Lindsey'] and freshman Charles Barnes. At halftime they both were tied. In the second half the Meteors got more help from senior [player_tooltip player_id='1113514' first='Evan' last='Jackson'] who chipped in with 10 points which just so happened to be what they need because that's how much De La Salle won by. Also want to add that it was good to see [player_tooltip player_id='1285484' first='Tavariyuan' last='Williams'] back on the court after his unfortunate incident in the Fall.
