SubscribePrep Hoops Kentucky takes a look at some of the top prospects to watch at the Billy Hicks Classic:
Moreno is not only one of the more intriguing prospects in the state but he has garnered a ton of national attention recently. He is a fluid, bouncy, long athlete that affects the game on both ends. Standing every bit of 6-11, he is most comfortable around the rim and operating in the mid-post. For only being a Sophomore, he has a really good feel and isn’t overwhelmed when played all over the court. As he gets stronger and gains more experience, look for him to be a force in the post as he gets more comfortable with his back to the basket.
Dawson is another young prospect for Great Crossing that can play any of the guard positions and put pressure on defenses by his athleticism. He is elite in transition and getting to his spots off of drives. At his best shooting in rhythm and can score in bunches if he gets hot. Love his ability to get to the paint and shoot floaters. One of the more physically strong players I have seen at his age and will only get better.
Suratt is one of best Freshman prospects in the state. He can play either of the guard positions and plays with an extreme calmness for his age. Never seems to get sped up and is smooth with every play he makes. The game comes natural to him. Overall a good athlete and has good size. Looks to still be growing. Has versatility on the offensive end to score both off the dribble and catch. Has deep 3pt range.
Cox is an ELITE scorer and one of the more exciting players to watch in the state. He’s a threat to score every time he touches the ball and will take and make tough shots. Does a good job squaring his shoulders when off balanced and doesn’t need a ton of space to shoot. Is a player if your hands are down he will shoot it. Does most of his damage on the perimeter. Averaging 20 PPG so far this season.

has for Mr. Basketball this season as he looks to have a monster senior year after transferring back from TSF. Meyer can and will score in any way possible. He is very good getting defenders off balanced to rise and shoot or get to the rim. Has great feel in pick and rolls and is a threat to come off and score. Has 3pt range both off the catch and dribble. Great combination of size and athleticism. Exciting prospect.
Gibson affects the game in ways that it doesn’t necessarily show up on the box score. His size and length greatly affects opposing teams as he makes it nearly impossible to finish around the rim when he is in the game. He’s getting better finishing around the rim, but does most of his damage on the defensive end.
Ward is a small, shifty point guard that is electric in the open court. One of the fastest players in the state and uses it on both ends of the floor. Does a great job defensively with his ball pressure and creating turnovers. Can score from 3pt range both off the catch and dribble. Does a good job getting to his spots on offense and elevates on his shots. Exciting player to watch.

Mosby is a 3 level scorer that can really shoot the basketball. Doesn’t need a ton of space to shoot, but really good when he can shoot off the catch. Has good feel for the game and knows when to shoot or get to his floater. He is crafty around the rim on finishes and scores timely baskets for them. Senior leader.
Simpson is a relentless scorer. Does a great job playing thru contact and will’s his way to the rim. High level competitor. Really good in transition and pushing it off of a defensive rebound. Can come off of pick and rolls to shoot or score. Will take a lot of shots for them as he looks to carry the heavy lifting on the offensive end.
