Expert Analysis

Sam likely has his best basketball ahead of him as his next stop in his career should afford him more opportunities to show what he can do than what he had to work with at Holy Cross. Gibson is a legit 7 footer and has shown that he can more fairly well around the bucket on both ends. Sam is an old school big man on offense but is likely to work his way into a good role and be a nice college player.

Gibson affects the game in ways that it doesn’t necessarily show up on the box score. His size and length greatly affects opposing teams as he makes it nearly impossible to finish around the rim when he is in the game. He’s getting better finishing around the rim, but does most of his damage on the defensive end.

We’ve written a lot about Sam over the last couple of months after a standout performance at the PH Top 250 Expo this fall. With his size at 7 foot tall and his continued improvement in his skill level and overall offensive game, Gibson is one of the true sleeper prospects in Kentucky in this class.

Speaking of kids who will be signing day steals, you don’t see many under-recruited 7 footers but Sam fits that bill. Gibson’s recruiting has been slow because he used to be slow on the court. But the big fella worked to transform his body and has improved his overall athleticism. As a college prospect, I would absolutely take a chance on a high academic 7 footer with the potential of Sam if I were a D2 or NAIA school.

Gibson was the biggest participant at camp on Saturday and he took advantage of it by living around the rim on offense and being one of the day’s best rebounders. Sam was a mismatch for every opposing team and made the most of his post touches when they came to him. He continues to improve his foot speed and the 7 footer has a chance to earn scholarship offers in the near future.
