I recently took in 2 games: A Watervliet 75-36 win against Dowagiac and a 66-53 Fenton victory against a game Ortonville-Brandon squad. I’m going to give you an closer look at 5 total players from the 2 winning teams.
If you didn’t know that this was Pleyer’s first high school game of his freshman season, you’d have never known. His poise, patience, and decision making were spot on from the opening tip. Pleyer started by creating his own opportunities for buckets by turning his defense into offense. It was actually his play on D that impressed me the most, as he forced TO’s that led to directly to points and assists. We are going to hear a lot from this young man over the next 4 years.
Highlights
Tyson Williams
Tyson Williams
Williams quite simply made plays all night. He seemed highly efficient with his jumper and he looked confident and effective with it. Williams was solid and disciplined on defense and scored from multiples levels. He was able to push the pace with the dribble, showing good straight line speed with the ball. Williams was very active on the glass as well.
Brady Bornas
Brady Bornas
I really liked what Bornas brought to the table. He was one of those players who’s game can’t be judged on stats alone. He never put the ball in danger by over dribbling, instead he swung the ball quickly and consistently. Bornas’ steady ball movement forced the defense to rotate and created openings. He showed a pretty jumper as well, burying at least 1 triple that I made note of.
Dillard II is an intriguing prospect. He finished the win with 29 total points, burying 5 triples in the process. He played a fast and furious type of game. Dillard II was consistently willing and able to gain steam with the ball in his hands and put pressure on the defense. He has the chance to put up some eye popping numbers this season and may just be exactly what a college coach is looking for.

Ja’Hion Bond
Ja’Hion Bond
Bond has shown in the past that he can get buckets and it looks like he’ll continue to do so this season. He’s a nice athlete that, in a similar way to teammate, Dillard II, likes to get downhill and make the defense react. Bond can hang in the air a bit and get creative with his shot and his finishes at the rim.
