Most of them will need this season to learn and develop their games before they truly become impact players, but the opportunity is there and they are definitely guys to keep tabs on as the season gets underway. Here are a few guys from the 2025 class and one from 2026 that are playmakers in the making.
McVey is a guy that is close to putting it together. He can get to the hoop pretty easily but sometimes lacks the finishing to put a stamp on the play. He has good vision on his drives and stays aware of where his teammates are and where lanes are opening up for cuts and dives. If he can sure up his finishing at the hoop, he will be able to take his playmaking to the next level and establish himself as a player to watch at Thomas Jefferson.
Johnson II is a polished player that stays low with the ball and has the quickness to put defenders in a blender on his way to the hoop. He’s an underrated player coming out of Mount Vernon and has the ability to be a key guy for them this season. He scores well from the point guard spot but also shows good composure with the ball and takes care of possessions.
Simmons is a guy who has shown flashes of his ability but wasn’t necessarily consistent this summer. He makes plays every so often that leave you impressed but wanting more. He is long, strong, and has the ability to burst by defenders to the rim where he uses that big frame to finish high and with strength. You can see he has the ability to impact possessions on the glass, with his dribble, and defending, but his potential really hinges on his consistency making these plays. He has a great opportunity to be a rotation player at Timberline this season and gain some momentum in his sophomore season.
Highlights
I continue to be impressed with this guy the more I watch him play. He is a lanky forward that plays a smooth game, shredding defenses with ease and making opportunities out of nothing. He eats up space with the dribble and has the ability to spin and wind his way to the hoop, keeping defenders at bay and a step behind. He’s a unique playmaker with the size to look over defenders and scour the court for the right play. I like his fight on the glass and defending the rim as well. Schow continues to rise in my eyes and will be one to watch this winter.
Brian Webster
Brian Webster
Webster is a player to watch coming out of the 2026 class. He’s long, beats kids off the dribble with a quick first step, and has great aggression when finishing at the rim. He’s pretty confident in his stroke too and hits at a good rate from long-range. There’s a certain level of confidence some kids have that sets them up for major growth and Webster has it. He’s not a gunner and he’s not a black hole, but he’s also not afraid to take the initiative to get things going and take what’s there.
