Izaac Neal
Izaac Neal
Izaac is a late blooming prospect who should be on the radar of long and explosive frontcourt players with some raw ability to mold. Offensively he’s at his best out of pick & rolls or floating in that dunker spot waiting for dump off passes. If he catches around the block he doesn’t hesitate to go up and finish, and when you combine his long frame with quick burst off the floor it makes for plenty of dunks. Defensively he excels as a shot blocker. He’s a standout volleyball player and you can really see that with the way he elevates straight up to alter shots without fouling. Really like his effort to move his feet into positions to make plays as a rim protector. Also runs the floor better than most 6’8 players you’ll find. Finished the game with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
Tommy Fritsch
Tommy Fritsch
Tommy was feeling it in the season opener, as the senior guard knocked down seven 3’s on his way to 28 points in a win! He’s very active off the ball, constantly cutting and running off screens to keep his defender chasing him. Fritsch always has his hands and feet ready to catch in shoot, but he also showed the ability to put the ball on the floor and attack a bad closeout. That quick burst helped him stay unpredictable and made it harder for defenders to guard him throughout the game. Fritsch added in a highlight block from behind in transition.
Another high level shooter I watched was Peyton McKenna Peyton McKenna 6’2″ | PG Germantown | 2024 State WI out of Germantown. Now as a junior he looks ready to take over as the lead scoring option, and he excelled against Kenosha ITA as he finished the game with 25 points. It didn’t matter who was guarding him, he just kept finding space beyond the arc resulting in 7-13 shooting from range. Smart player who isn’t going to turn the ball over much and always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
Highlights
Blake Fletcher
Blake Fletcher
Blake is one of the more impressive student-athletes you’ll find in the entire state. He’s a 4.0 student, plays four different sports, and is committed to Air Force as one of the top football prospects in Wisconsin. On Saturday he showed he can hoop a little too as he finished with a team high 20 points. There’s nothing flashy about his game, but Blake is just a force around the basket. If he catches in the paint there’s not much you can do to stop him, as the 220 pound forward is nearly impossible to match in terms of strength. He was constantly powering through outstretched arms to finish at a high percentage inside, while also providing energy for his team by hyping them up after big plays.
With all of the talent around him, Ewell can sometimes fly under the radar. That wasn’t the case on Saturday night as I thought he played very well against St. Thomas More. Ewell finished with 14 points, using his strong frame as a guard to power his way to the basket. He found success flashing to the elbow, facing up, and either immediately driving or getting his defender off balance with a jab step before attacking. Clinton is so dangerous in that spot as he has a quick first step and excellent body control when finishing at the rim.
East lost a good amount of their scoring from last season, and Henderson looks to be stepping into a much bigger role. He’s an incredibly shifty guard who can create space with ease off the dribble. He’s a left handed shooter but showed he can attack in either direction to get into his mid-range shot. One of the smaller players on the floor but gets excellent elevation on his pull-up allowing him to get his shot off over his man. Finished with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists against Pius XI.
Deshawn’s name has to be in consideration for best on-ball defender in Wisconsin. He was an absolute pest against St. Thomas More, picking up full court and making it difficult for them to get into their offense. If there’s a loose ball, you can bet that Deshawn is going to be diving on the floor to compete for possession. Offensively he’s quick to get to the basket and has long arms that he can use to extend and finish away from his body to avoid shot blockers. Finished with 10 points in an impressive season opening win for MAS.
DaQuan is a player who’s seemingly come out of nowhere. As a junior he saw very limited minutes for East, but now standing at a long 6′ he looks to be a key player for them as a senior. In his season opener Reynolds put up 20 points on 13 attempts, showing he can stretch the floor off the catch but also attack and use his long frame to finish at the rim. He’s an aggressive defender who’s not afraid to dive on a loose ball and loves to jump lazy passes to get out in transition. His scrappy play style and toughness on defense caught my eye in a preseason scrimmage, and he backed it up in the opening game of the regular season.
