Continue ReadingThe Suburban League added several teams recently and expanded the league quite a bit. In their first big year, the league produced one of the top teams in the state (Brecksville-Broadview Heights) as well as a District Runner-Up (Stow-Munroe Falls) and was competitive throughout the season. I can see 2 teams again competing for a District title as the league has some contenders yet again.
Contenders
Brecksville-Broadview Heights– The Bees were one of the best teams in Ohio last year and put together quite an impressive season before being beaten by Cleveland Heights to end their season. While they lose a multi-year letterman in Tyler Ganley, the Bees have back one of the most exciting players in the league in Luke Skaljac Luke Skaljac 6'2" | PG Brecksville-Broadview Hts | 2024 State #162 Nation OH (Jr) who is attracting attention from multiple D1 programs. Role guys Chase Garito Chase Garito 6'8" | C Brecksville-Broadview Heights | 2023 State OH (Sr) and Brady Ganley Brady Ganley 6'2" | SG Brecksville-Broadview Heights | 2025 State OH (So) return to surround Skaljac on the offensive end. Brecksville makes a legitimate case to return to the District Finals and will be the overwhelming favorite in the league to start the year.
Stow-Munroe Falls– The Bulldogs are returning virtually everybody from a 15 win team. A District Final appearance was the highlight of their season as Stow surprised many with their run and success. While they have no All-District performers returning, this team is loaded with upperclassmen led by A.J. Pestello (Sr) and Titus Baskersville IV (Sr). Nick Timberlake Nick Timberlake 6'3" | SG Stow | 2023 State OH (Sr) and Reece Raymond-Smith Reece Raymond-Smith 6'5" | SF Stow | 2024 State OH (Jr) also are back. Size won’t be an issue nor will the experience, meaning Stow could return to a District title.
Expected Finish
(National Division)
- Brecksville-Broadview Heights– Have the best player back (Skaljac) and plenty of pieces from last year’s ultra successful season.
- Stow-Munroe Falls– Senior heavy team in District Finals a year ago.
- Wadsworth– Return maybe the 2nd best player in the league in Wright State commit Solomon Callaghan Solomon Callaghan 6'0" | PG Wadsworth | 2023 State OH (Sr) along with Maxx Bosley Maxx Bosley 5'11" | CG Wadsworth | 2024 State OH (Jr) to form a solid backcourt.
- Nordonia– 2 seniors returning that contributed a lot in Isaac Henry and Isaac Cherry Isaac Cherry 6'6" | PF Nordonia | 2023 State OH .
- Hudson– Struggled a year ago but return 2 exciting players in Mike Steel Mike Steel 6'8" | C Hudson | 2023 State OH (Sr) and Tino Yli-Junnila (Jr). Should be improved this year.
- Twinsburg– Losing 2 of their top 3 from second best team last year. David Coniglio (Sr) returns.
- North Royalton– Likely a year away with their best returning player being a junior ( Jadallah Suleiman Jadallah Suleiman 6'1" | CG North Royalton | 2024 State OH ).
(American Division)
- Tallmadge– Bringing back great athleticism in Collin Dixon (Sr) who is Wisconsin football commit and Ty Hurst (Sr). As long as Dixon plays, this team will be tough. Added Paul Rusinko (So) from CVCA for additional depth.
- Highland– Will be bringing in one of the more exciting incoming freshman in Evangelos Verginis (Fr).
- Copley– Indians lose great player in Caleb Laurich. Can Trent Wininger (Jr) alleviate that loss?
- Revere– Return Baron Bania (Sr) for another run.
- Kent Roosevelt– Losing their top 2 and moving up to Division I this year.
- Barberton– Will miss production from an All-District player (Tony Fox).
- Aurora– Missing their top guys from last season.
- Cuyahoga Falls– Returning couple juniors from 5 win team last year.
