Continue ReadingPHI recently unveiled our first look at the Illinois class of 2025 with our initial top 60 rankings. It is still EXTREMELY early in the process and there will be a ton of movement and more prospects to emerge over the next three years. Here is a look at some of the top prospects we have seen at this stage in Top 2025 PG/Combos!
Jeremiah Fears Jeremiah Fears 6'1" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2025 State #31 Nation AZ (Joliet West)
Current Ranking: #2
Fears is clearly the top lead guard in the class as it sets today. He holds a handful of high-major offers and that list will continue to grow. Dynamic scoring guard that has NBA range on his three point shot, but is more than just a shooter. Can win off the dribble with shifty drives utilizing floaters in the lane. Makes sound decisions as a passer particularly in the drive/kick. Also is a willing defender with active hands at the point of attack.
Colby Smith Colby Smith 6'3" | PG New Trier | 2025 State IL (New Trier)
Current Ranking: #10
Smith first jumped on our radar over a year ago in a camp setting playing against guys older than him where he more than held his own. The young floor general has off the charts vision and feel for the game as a rising sophomore. He makes others around him better and picks his spots to score.
EJ Breland EJ Breland 6'0" | PG St. Patrick | 2025 State IL (St. Patrick)
Current Ranking: #11
High IQ guard that is ultra smooth with the ball in his hands. Breland has supreme confidence of not only his abilities, but being able to elevate the play of those around him. We saw that in July with Grind Family Chicago where he was a three level scorer knocking in triples with consistency, but he also got his teammates their looks as well.
Christian Cummings Christian Cummings 5'11" | PG Rockford Christian | 2025 State IL (Rockford Christian)
Current Ranking: #13
Cummings had a breakout summer with the Mac Irvin Fire emerging as one of the best lead guards in the class. Super athletic and quick guard that is dynamic with the rock in his hands. Such and acrobatic finisher that makes difficult layups looks seemingly easy on a regular basis. Showed flashes as a distributor, but is a scorer at heart.
Keshaun Vaval Keshaun Vaval 6'1" | PG Evergreen Park | 2025 State IL (Marist)
Current Ranking: #16
The quickness and athleticism jump off the floor for this Marist guard. He is part of a three headed monster in the backcourt for Romeoville, but watch out for this guard who has all the dynamic tools you look for in a young guard.
Robert Walls Robert Walls 6'2" | PG DePaul Prep | 2025 State IL (DePaul Prep)
Current Ranking: #17
Walls is making the move over to DePaul Prep after spending his freshman season at Kenwood. Point guard that plays with flair and had a lot of hype coming out of grammar school. Liked what we saw from him in June with his new squad as he did the little things to impact the game along with making some spectacular plays as well.
JaiQuan Holman JaiQuan Holman 5'10" | PG Springfield Lanphier | 2025 State IL (Springfield Lanphier)
Current Ranking: #19
The shooting from this Lanphier point guard is what jumped off the floor to us during his freshman campaign. He can really let it fly with deep range on his shot. Should see a more expanded role as a sophomore.
Yaris Irby Yaris Irby 5'10" | PG Niles North | 2025 State IL (Niles North)
Current Ranking: #21
Irby was at Evanston for his freshman campaign and recently made the move over to Niles North. Quick and shifty lead guard that pushes the tempo with great speed. Gets in the creases of the defense and is a pesky on ball defender.
