Bridges is a prospect who caught my eye as a Sophomore but really stood out on Saturday playing alongside some other impressive guards. Bridges shot the ball at a higher level from the outside than I’d previously seen from him and as always, his passing skills were on point. Bridges is giving up height on pretty much any matchup defensively, but competed on that end as well and was overall one of the most productive players I saw during week one.
Headings is a mismatch at 6’8 with the skills to put it on the floor and simply shoot over smaller defenders. That’s exactly what Headings did for a couple minute stretch where he started just nailing fadeaway jumpers over a shorter defender each time down the court. Headings is a modern day forward who has the ball handling skills to beat players off the dribble and create for himself or others. After winning a state title as a Junior, Headings and the rest of Pickerington Central are ready to defend their crown in 2022-23.
A constant top performer, Ullom is a prospect who just produces almost every time I watch him play. A good athlete for a wing forward at 6’5, Ullom uses his speed and strength to overpower smaller defenders around the basket. Ullom was getting buckets and making it look easy out there, showing off his self-creation skills on a team that needed him to create for himself. Look for small colleges to prioritize Ullom as he progresses through his senior season.
Zingg is a work in progress, but that’s a compliment as he’s taken some pretty big steps in just the past couple months. Zingg is one of the taller prospects in the state and I’ve noticed that he’s always trying to get in the gym. Just based off the last couple times I watched him, he’s taken a leap in terms of mobility and conditioning. Zingg also used his size to finish around the basket as nobody he played could compete on the inside against his 6’9 frame. Zingg isn’t going to be ready to play the moment he steps on a college campus, but some program could take a chance on him and see the benefits pay off during his upperclassmen seasons.
The final prospect featured in this article, Cunningham Jr was impressive in both games I caught of his. Cunningham finished around the basket with both hands and took smart shots for his team. After gaining valuable experience as a starter for Westerville South as a Junior, expect Cunningham Jr to take on a bigger role as a senior while the Wildcats look to replace Drey Carter.
