We’ll take a look at some of the players that I noticed in regards to their ball handling at the Prep Hoops Michigan Freshman Showcase.

Watkins was a beast with the ball at the showcase. It wasn’t the flash that stood out, but the effectiveness. He generally took a straight line path to the rim, but he pounded the ball off the floor, kept it protected, and finished at the rim.

Eklund is another player that stood out for his overall effectiveness with the ball in his hands. His combination of height, length, and ball skills will be very intriguing to next level programs in the coming years.
Opsommer could really handle the rock. He was smart with the ball, making good decisions and not rushing just to rush. Opsommer showed that he could go the length of the floor with the ball in his hands and finish at the other end.
Robbins was strong with the ball in his hands at the Freshman Showcase. He put it on the floor with confidence and seemed to know where he wanted to go with the ball. Robbins looked especially comfortable working with the ball on the baseline.
James is a very special and unique talent. When I saw the young 6-8 baller, I expected to see your typical young post player that dominated on D and had work to do offensively. This was not the case. James could step out and handle the ball on the perimeter and make moves to the rim with it as well.
Highlights
Swanson showed that he could be dynamic with the basketball. He was able to go coast to coast with speed and a purpose. Swanson was able to put the ball on the floor and make moves to the rim that resulted in buckets.
Highlights
Creary was definitely solid with the ball at the Freshman Showcase. I really liked the way he kept the ball protected when attacking off the dribble drive and finishing. Creary shielded the ball with his right arm while scoring with his left.
Price proved to be a dangerous ball handler if you were trying to guard him. He did a nice job putting the ball on the floor and attacking the rim. Price could didn’t over dribble, but used a quick move and went.
Highlights
Summerville had some flare to his handles. He was excellent with both hands and could go either way when attacking off the bounce. This really helped Summerville break down his defenders and free up space.
Murray really grabbed my attention with the way he played when the basketball was in his hands. He got the ball and went, showing that he could really push the pace when he was handling the ball. Murray was very aggressive with the rock as well.
Charter was tremendous in many phases of the game, with his ball handling being one of them. He was steady and efficient as a primary ball handler throughout the event. Charter does a great job fending off defenders while seeing the entire floor.
Highlights
Lovejoy was so sneaky with the ball. It seemed like he could see through his defender and get where he wanted to go with the ball. Lovejoy had the ability to use his handles to create space for his jumper.
