Taylor was one of the smallest players at the event but his quickness and pace with the basketball allowed him to get into the lane and score efficiently at the rim. Taylor is a quick guard who made plays off the bounce and was quick to attack closeouts when another ball-handler ran the offense. With Taylor and Breon Hicks Breon Hicks 6’3″ | SF Cardinal Stritch | 2023 State OH standing out on Sunday, I expect big things from Cardinal Stritch this winter.
Angstmann is a 6’7 stretch-4 who showed the ability to shoot it from the outside. I was impressed with Angstmann’s ability to space the floor and move on the perimeter with or without the ball in his hands. When you combine his size, mobility and shooting ability you have a pretty interesting prospect but taking the next step will involve hitting the weight room more often and getting more confident putting the ball on the floor. St Mary’s Memorial is one of the bigger teams in Ohio size wise and Angstmann will have a major role as they look to win another district title.
I always get excited when a prospect I’d never previously heard about plays well at an event I’m at, that’s exactly what Dickerson did next to a bunch of players I was already familiar with. Dickerson plays with a high motor and was tough to stop once he got downhill with the basketball. Dickerson also knocked down some outside shots as well throughout the afternoon. Able to play either wing guard position, I expect Dickerson to have a big Junior season for Maumee Valley.
Patterson was one of the most athletic prospects at the event, throwing down a handful of dunks despite standing at just 6’1. One of the highlight plays of the day was a Matt Watkins Matt Watkins 6’2″ | CG Perrysburg | 2023 State OH steal into an alley-oop off the backboard for a Patterson slam. Patterson also made some plays cutting without the basketball and finishing around the basket. I’d like to see Patterson improve his ball-handling because his explosiveness and energy really stand out. He’s got some developments to make over the next couple years but the talent is obvious for Patterson.
Alan Horton
Alan Horton
Horton is the one freshman I wanted to spotlight as Horton showed off his massive potential with his impressive skill for a prospect his size and age. Horton is capable working his back to the basket and battled against older competition all day. I expect to be writing a lot more about Horton as the years go by.
