Nobody had a bigger impact on the defensive end than Gibson. His extreme length made it difficult for anyone to finish around the rim. I was impressed his ability to guard in pick and rolls. Moves well laterally and was able to take vision away from the ball handler with active hands. Had a couple impressive blocks that only a handful of players in the state could make.
Defensively, I was most impressed of Stone’s quick hands, lateral quickness and his physicality. He caused disruption all day with deflections and stripping the ball on drives. He was great guarding drives using his strength to get back in front. Has great instincts that you can’t teach.
Came away impressed with Griffin’s discipline defensively. Seemed to always be in the right spot off the ball which allowed him to jump passing lanes. He always had his teammates back on drives. Had great closeouts with high hands. Guys struggled getting by him.
Highlights
Whitaker’s defensive versatility was what stood out. Guarded a mix of guards and big’s all day. Has the strength and length to battle in the post. His length affected the guards ability to score over him. Loved how he chased down some tough rebounds in traffic. Overall he has the ability to guard anyone on the floor.
Bresser was fearless and disciplined defensively. Was always in the mix for loose balls and was never out of position. Another player that has the ability to guard 1-5 at the high school level. As he continues to get stronger, could be one of the better defenders in the state.
