When talking Magoffin County, the discussion always starts with Aden Barnett Aden Barnett 6'1" | SG Magoffin County | 2024 State KY . The senior was terrific in the fourth quarter to push his team to the next round with some key defensive plays, rebounds and free throws. I wanted to highlight Whitaker because his extra effort on the offensive glass were key turning points in the game. With 13 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks, Whitaker stuffed the stat sheet in the win. Magoffin County’s magical March run continues for at least one more game.

Whitaker has long been one of my favorite “sleepers” in the 2024 class. He plays super hard and doesn’t force anything. At 6’6, Zane can block shots and is switchable on defense. He’s got a good skill set and fluid mechanics on his jump shot. Basically, I think Zane will be a steal at the next level.

This showcase was also a great opportunity to scout some new faces and this was my first-time seeing Whitaker standout. With good size from the wing and a high motor, Whitaker was getting his team extra possessions with how he attacked the glass. Combine that with his soft touch from the mid-range area and Whitaker was a steady performer all afternoon. A high academic prospect as well, I expect small college programs to go hard after Whitaker throughout his senior season.

Whitaker has been one of my favorite “under the radar” players in this class for the last couple of years. A long wing with a good skill level and nice feel for the game, Zane has had impressive showings at our camps in the past and I expect no different on Saturday.

Zane is like the reverse of some of our Western Kentucky prospects mentioned yesterday in the sense that you only get to see him once or twice per year. However, Whitaker came to our Top 250 expo again this year and was noticeably thicker and stronger than a year ago. Combined with his skill level and a pretty good motor, there’s no reason Zane shouldn’t get multiple college offers before graduation.

Whitaker’s defensive versatility was what stood out. Guarded a mix of guards and big’s all day. Has the strength and length to battle in the post. His length affected the guards ability to score over him. Loved how he chased down some tough rebounds in traffic. Overall he has the ability to guard anyone on the floor.

Whitaker came out of nowhere last year to be a top performer at our camp. It will be interesting to see his progression over the past year and see if he’s bulked up his wiry frame to get his body more college ready.
