Sandfort’s 72 blocks last season were more than all but six 4A teams had last year. A 6-7 wing who does an excellent job contesting shots, he has the length and versatility to defend multiple positions in addition to his dominant offensive skills.
2.) 2024 Cade Courbat Cade Courbat 6'8" | PF Cedar Falls | 2024 State IA (Cedar Falls) – 53
Courbat is a bouncy forward who is coming off a really strong summer with Martin Brothers as both a scorer and defender. The younger brother of Northern Iowa big Chase Courbat, who was an excellent defender in his own right, Cade uses his superior athleticism to seemingly come out of nowhere to turn away shots.
3.) 2023 Lucas Lueth Lucas Lueth 6'6" | SF Ames | 2023 State IA (Ames) – 41
A 6-7 wing with incredible length, Lueth is arguably the best defensive player in the state with his ability to lock down opposing scorers and play off the ball. He has elite instincts and the physical attributes for that ability to translate to the college game in a big way.
4.) 2024 Gage Kampman Gage Kampman 6'7" | PF Iowa City Liberty | 2024 State IA (Liberty) – 30
Kampman came off the bench to provide some help on both ends of the floor last season for the Lightning, averaging 4.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks a game. A long and athletic 6-7/6-8 big man, he’s coming off a very productive summer with the Iowa Barnstormers and could emerge as one of the top two-way bigs this year.
5.) 2025 Luke Wieskamp Luke Wieskamp 6'6" | SF Brophy Prep | 2025 State AZ (Muscatine) – 29
A 6-5/6-6 wing coming off a solid freshman year, Wieskamp is the younger brother of former Iowa standout and Mr. Basketball Joe Wieskamp. He can score from anywhere and has the size and length to be a solid all-around defender.
6.) 2023 Samuel Tornabane Samuel Tornabane 6'6" | PF Johnston | 2023 State IA (Johnston) – 28
Tornabane had a breakout year last season for a loaded Dragons team, averaging 6.4 points and 1.5 blocks a game while shooting over 42% from behind the arc. His ability to stretch the floor and protect the paint was on full display this summer with Pure Prep.
7.) 2025 Davis Kern Davis Kern 6'8" | PF Linn-Mar | 2025 State #244 Nation IA (Linn-Mar) – 27
Kern is emerging as one of the best players in a loaded 2025 class, a versatile 6-8 big who is the prototypical modern big man with his ability to stretch the floor, rim-run, and protect the paint.
8.) 2023 Vance Peiffer Vance Peiffer 6'7" | C Waukee | 2023 State IA (Waukee) – 26
A mobile 6-7 big man with good timing, Peiffer has a chance to have a real breakout senior year for the Warriors, after averaging 12.2 points and 6.7 rebounds a game last season. He should benefit from playing alongside Omaha Biliew, another elite shot blocker.
9.) 2024 Anthony Gott Anthony Gott 6'8" | C North Scott | 2024 State IA (Davenport Central) – 25
A 6-7/6-8 big man who can switch onto smaller players and protect the paint, he’s an intriguing young prospect who is getting better every year.
10.) 2023 JJ Kohl JJ Kohl 6'8" | PF Ankeny | 2023 IA (Ankeny) – 24
A future Iowa State quarterback, Kohl is a mobile 6-7 big man with good instincts and timing on the defensive end. Knowing that he’s behind them allows the Ankeny guards to play a bit more aggressively on the defensive end.
