Layton has a good group of players that are coming back that could really help them make some noise across the state. They might be favored in Region 1 with all the returners that they have. Then you have a team in Syracuse that is making a big time move in the right direction as they have some players on that roster that have developed and are ready to make some noise in Region 1. They might surprise some teams with their elevated play, they have some dudes that can ball. Weber is another team that has some guys that can score the ball and some even have take over ability. Here is the rest of Region 1 and some key players that will be big for their respective teams.
Layton High School || 6’3 G KJ Miller KJ Miller 6'3" | CG Layton | 2024 State UT || 2024 ||
KJ has really turned into a consistent scoring threat at all three levels. He has some physical attributes that allow him to muscle through defenders as he can use his sheer strength in the lanes to get to the rim. He can also use that agile movement to make his way through the defense as well. He has really improved his handle and his off the bounce game. KJ has that unique ability to play on the ball when he needs to as he can handle the PG duties when asked upon, but he can also play off the ball. As an off the ball player he is lights out from deep as a SG and he can slash tp the rim and mix in a few mid-range jumpers. His offensive game keeps defenders off balance because they do not know what to expect because his bag is deep. Look for KJ to really turn it up this season.
Syracuse High School || 6’3 G Kaden Ericksen Kaden Ericksen 6'2" | CG Syracuse | 2023 State UT || 2023 ||
Really impressed with the growth that Kaden has displayed on his high school team and on his club team as well. He plays a bit different as he has different responsibilities on those two teams. At Syracuse he is exciting to watch out on the perimeter because a bad closeout can result into a nice dunk. His confidence is starting to soar and his game is soaring along with it. His mid range step back game is evolving as his attack to the rim at the high post as well. Deadly outside the arc because he can make a quick move and create for himself and others. He will be one of the top players in Region 1 this coming year.
Weber High School || 6’2 PG Hunter Schenck Hunter Schenck 6'2" | PG Weber | 2024 State UT || 2024 ||
Hunter looks to impressive this offseason wether he is running with this club team or that club team he has performed. At the high school level he hasn’t had as much freedom like the AAU scene but this summer he had some freedom and made some big time shots and plays. He has a lot of elevation on his jumper and he just finds ways to score. If he keeps the pace up he will be right on pace to score 1,000 points in his career, especially if he has a few of those impressive scoring performances he is usually good for.
