The 2022-23 season is full of intrigue and excitement with teams looking to take home state titles. Newark is one of the most talented areas in the state, making the annual City championship one to watch. The 2024 class is full of excitement and should be fun to watch this season. Here are the 2024 Newark prospects to track this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1406993' first='Anthony' last='Akande'], 6'4 SG Arts

Akande had a huge summer with the [program_tooltip program_id='2078569' first='Jersey' last='Force'], raising his stock more than any other prospect in Brick City. The 6'4 guard attacks the basket with a purpose as he has a nose for getting to the rim and can finish through contact. Akande consistently gets to his spot on the floor and shoots the ball with confidence on the perimeter. He is a solid rebounder and has the athleticism to defend multiple positions on the floor. Akande is a two-way guard prospect whose stock has climbed over the past couple of months.

Maurice Vassel, 6'9 PF St. Benedict's

Vassel is an intriguing prospect to track in the 2024 class with ability to impact the game in the paint. The lanky 6'9 forward is active around the basket as he fights for offensive rebounds and finishes strong above the rim. Vassel plays with good footwork down low and is becoming more confident on the offensive end. He blocks a ton of shots around the basket and rips down rebounds on the defensive end. Vassel's combination of length, athleticism and skill makes him a prospect to watch in the 2024 class.

[player_tooltip player_id='1050411' first='Khalil' last='Sanders'], 5'11 PG Newark Central

Sanders is moving from one Newark school to another as he started his varsity career at Newark Tech. The 5'11 guard has a quick first step and a good handle, which he uses to blow by his defender and get to the rim. Sanders is more than just a slasher as he can also score in the mid-range and has a nice release on his jumper. He knows how to get his teammates involved in the half court and is an underrated rebounder. Sanders is a quick lead guard prospect who should make plays with the ball in his hands this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1407084' first='Amir' last='Abdullah'], 5'10 PG Newark East Side

Abdullah had a solid debut season as a starter in 2021-22 and should take a big leap up this winter. The 5'10 guard has a smooth shooting stroke and can knock down triples in bunches. Abdullah moves well without the ball in his hands, setting himself up for easy layups and jumpers in the half court. He has a good handle and is capable of running the offense. Abdullah is a sharpshooting guard who will get more opportunities to play with the ball in his hands in 2022-23.

[player_tooltip player_id='1153952' first='Eunique' last='Rink'], 6'8 C Payne Tech

Rink is set for a breakout season with his ability to make an impact down low. The 6'8 post blocks almost everything around the basket and is tough to box out at both ends of the floor. Rink knows how to get position down low and can finish around the basket. He is developing his range on the offensive end and sets good screens in the half court. Rink is a physical post prospect who should be one to watch in 2022-23.
