College coaches filled the stands of McBride high school to watch 80 prospects showcase their skills in the one-day event. We were in attendance for all of the camp games and here are some of the standouts we watched.
Mike Davis, Jr., 2023, San Joaquin Memorial – Davis has a bit of a throwback big man feel as his game is predicated on power and force inside. The 6-foot-7 big-bodied forward seeks out contact around the basket and uses his strong frame to elevate through contact and finish at the rim. Davis has teh ball skills and footwork to face-up and drive by defenders to get to the rack, as well.
Nik Khamenia, 2025, Harvard-Westlake – If I had a vote for overall showcase MVP, mine would have gone to Khamenia. The 6-foot-7 swingman out of Harvard-Westlake is as high IQ and versatile as they come at such a young age. Khamenia has the ball skills, IQ and playmaking ability to play a point-forward role, but is also effective off the ball with his consistent catch-and-shoot jumper and feel for slashing to the basket.
Parker Strauss Parker Strauss 6'4" | PG Pacifica Christian/OC | 2023 State CA-S , 2023, Pacifica Christian/OC – Strauss’ recruitment has exploded over the past few weeks and its easy to see why. The 6-foot-4 point guard has true feel and playmaking ability off the bounce and really understands how to run a team, even though he wasn’t familiar with his teammates in this setting. Strauss can knockdown open three-point shots or use the dribble to create space to pull a dribble jumper. One of the things that draws college coaches to Strauss is his willingness to do the little things to help a team win.
Pearson Carmichael Pearson Carmichael 6'6" | SF Summit | 2024 State #270 Nation OR , 2024, Summit (OR) – Carmichael is another 2023 prospect on the west coast who has raised his stock this spring and summer. The 6-foot-6 wing has the feel and IQ of a true point guard to go along with the smooth scoring feel and jump shot of a shooting guard. Carmichael is cut from the “point forward” mold with his offensive versatility and ability to create for himself and others off the dribble.
Yorgio Golesis Yorgio Golesis 5'10" | SG Skyline | 2023 State UT , 2023, Skyline (UT) – If you were looking for a guy who seemed to always make the right play with the ball in his hands it was Golesis. The 6-foot-1 true point guard has a quick first step that allows him to blow by defenders and get into the lane where he either hit a pull-up jumper or kicked to an open teammate. Golesis is a crafty finisher around rim protectors at the basket and can knock down triples both off the catch and off the bounce.
