Well, in my time scavenging the gym, I was bound to notice some athletes that I’d seen plenty of times before. That being said, in the “Something Old” segment of this 2 part series, I’ll talk about some players that I’ve seen before.

I haven’t seen Taylor a lot, but I’d caught glimpses. He’s a really solid all around athlete that moves well laterally with good hip movement. Taylor has good strength at the guard spot. His athleticism and power really aid him in being a terrific rebounder from the perimeter. Taylor played a key role in Moneyball East 17u coming home with the Gold Championship this weekend.
Thompkins is a bona fide game changer at the lead guard and needs to be mentioned with the best in the state at that position. In a point guard dominated class, he’s flat out one of the best. He put up a double-double this weekend at the GRBA National Championships with 21 points and 10 assists. He also added 5 boards in that game. Thompkins also had a game in which he scored 26 points, dished out 6 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds.
Micah is an underrated all around athlete and has some very real explosive abilities. He rises up on his jumper and can shoot over top the defender. Saunders went off for about 25 points in his team’s second game. He should be considered a next level player and prospect. Since he’s such a solid all around athlete, many fans were hoping he’d show up and dominate the go kart track that night as well.
Trey was new to me just a couple weeks ago, but he has certainly grabbed my attention. The combo guard showed his scoring acumen at Brawl For The Ball, then this week showed the diversity in his game. At the GRBA Nationals, his team needed the ball to be moved and precision passing, and that’s what he delivered. Hiteshew did a nice job setting the table for his teammates and had a game high of 7 assists.
Highlights
This is another case of me purposefully not searching out numbers because I just didn’t need them. Numbers are overrated, and no matter what Barnes’ were, he more than passes the eye test. His jumper is silky smooth and looks so fluid and comfortable coming out of his hands. He handles the ball with precision and it seemed like every dribble had a purpose. Barnes can get up and down the floor in a hurry and manages to stay under control while doing so. He’s a special talent to say the least.
