There was plenty of new talent for me to scope out over the course of the weekend. That being said, in the “Something New” segment of this 2 part series, I’ll talk about some players that I saw for the first time last weekend.
Jordan Edwards
Jordan Edwards
Edwards was a leader and a difference maker in the backcourt for the Mid Ohio Pumas . He quickly and smoothly changed speeds and was able to put defenders on his hip. Edwards had a nice feel for when he had a scoring opportunity and when it was time to get his teammates involved. He showed the ability to go either direction and could attack the defense off the bounce. Edwards was solid on the defensive end, closing out quickly on shooters and looking for opportunities to step in a passing lane and make a play.
Jack Ullom
Jack Ullom
Ullom was terrific off the wing. I really liked his mid range game. He found openings and creases in the defense, got the ball, and rose up to shoot over top of defenders. Ullom played bigger than his height and was a real force on the glass. He was able to extend possessions for the Pumas on the offensive glass. Ullom was versatile on defense with his ability to defend the perimeter but also extend vertically and use his length when guarding in the paint.
Isaiah Malone
Isaiah Malone
Malone was a difference maker in the paint for the Mambas squad. He was lean and long and knew how to use his length on the defensive end. Malone was in charge of protecting the rim all game long and did a great job while he was at it. He looked to have good timing and a solid feel for when the ball was going up. Malone got off the ground quickly and went straight up in the air, avoiding fouls and never allowing himself to get into foul trouble.
Jake Sermersheim
Jake Sermersheim
Sermersheim is a player to keep an eye on this coming high school season. He did a lot of things well when I saw him at the GRBA National Championships. Sermersheim’s jumper was pure and he was consistent with it as well. He displayed excellent shot selection and was a plus defender on that side of the ball.

Granville was an absolute beast when I watched him against The Factory – Dion. He dominated the paint defensively, protecting the rim and grabbing each and every board within his grasp. In large part due to Granville’s defense, The Factory , which keep in mind was solid over the course of the weekend had no answer and had extremely limited looks at the rim outside of jumpers from beyond the arc. Offensively, he was a ferocious and powerful finisher that the defense really had no answer for. What was really impressive is that in my opinion, his ability to put the ball on the floor is underrated.
