Continue ReadingA few weeks ago we put out our first class of 2025 rankings in VA, and due to all of the content from the live periods we haven’t had a chance to break down the new rankings.
We’ll take a look at positional rankings, ranking the guards, wings and bigs.
Here’s a look at part 3 of the guards rankings, ranking the top 5 point and combo guards in the class of 2025.
5) Aiden Argabright Aiden Argabright 6'0" | PG John Marshall | 2025 State #220 Nation VA | 5’11” PG | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#14 Overall)
Argabright is going to get thrown in the fire this year for a young and rebuilding SSSAS team, and he looked ready at DMV Live as he got better throughout the event and didn’t back down from top competition. He’s a skilled floor general who can handle pressure and get his team into sets, he’s good in the pick-and-roll and has great feel and vision and he has the ability to score it from multiple levels off the bounce. He’s poised to have a breakout sophomore season and could be one of the top young guards in the DMV over the next few years.
4) Khalil Caple Khalil Caple 6'4" | CG Norfolk Collegiate | 2025 State VA | 6’3” CG | King’s Fork (#13 Overall)
Caple is the floor general of a very talented Loaded 757 15U group and while he was stuck behind some very good upperclassmen last year at King’s Fork he has the chance to be one of the top young guards in a talented crop in the 757. He has good size as a combo and is quick off the bounce allowing him to get in the lane and make plays, he can score the ball from multiple levels off the bounce and has the ability to create his own shot and he’s a big time defender on the ball and in help side. His mix of skill and athleticism to go along with his size is very intriguing moving forward.
3) Chance Mallory Chance Mallory 5'10" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2025 State #73 Nation VA | 5’6” PG | STAB (#10 Overall)
Mallory is arguably the most skilled player in this class, and coaches are starting to overlook his short stature as he has picked up a couple of division one offers with his consistent play against top level competition. He’s a very talented shooter with effortless range past the NBA line both off the catch and off the bounce, he is strong with the ball and plays with good pace changing speeds and directions well and he can finish over bigger defenders with either hand and off either foot. He’s a pesky defender who gets under ball handlers and makes them uncomfortable, he rebounds much bigger than his size would suggest and he flat out knows how to play and makes winning plays on both ends of the floor.
2) Shane Lincoln Shane Lincoln 6'4" | PG Bishop O'Connell | 2025 State VA | 6’3” CG | Bishop O’Connell (#7 Overall)
Lincoln’s stock is starting to rise fast as he came on at DMV Live and showed on a young Bishop O’Connell backcourt that he has a lot of potential moving forward with his ability to impact the game at either backcourt spot. He is long and keeps growing every time we see him, he’s a smooth athlete off the bounce who can get to spots to make shots and he can really knock it down from deep as well. He knows how to get in the lane and make plays for others, he has great tools defensively and he keeps getting better which bolds well for him moving forward.
1) Donovan Richardson Donovan Richardson 6'6" | PG Steward | 2025 State #166 Nation VA | 6’5” CG | Collegiate (#6 Overall)
Richardson reclassified from the 2024 class at Collegiate and has quickly made a name for himself as one of the top young players in Richmond that keeps improving in all of the right ways. At 6’5” he has a terrific frame that is strong and he has very strong legs to be able to take contact when he gets in the lane, he’s always under control and is able to see over defenders to make the correct passes and he knows how to use his size to score in traffic and in the midrange with floaters and pull-ups. He’s a talented scorer that is improving as a shot maker from deep, and he’s played against older players throughout his career and been very productive while doing so.
