Continue ReadingA few weeks ago we put out our first class of 2025 rankings in VA, and due to all of the content from the live periods we haven’t had a chance to break down the new rankings.
We’ll take a look at positional rankings, ranking the guards, wings and bigs.
Here’s a look at the bigs rankings, ranking the power forwards and centers in the class of 2025.
8) Wyatt Norton Wyatt Norton 6'8" | C Bishop O'Connell | 2025 State VA | 6’8” C | Paul VI (#24 Overall)
Norton could be a guy who shoots up this list when we get to see him more, as he is currently on perhaps the most talented team in the state and with a lot of good front court pieces. He’s a big kid who is likely still growing, he moves pretty well and should get more mobile and athletic as he grows into his body and he has good hands and feet as well.
7) David Miller David Miller 6'6" | PF Green Run | 2025 State VA | 6’5” PF | Green Run (#20 Overall)
Miller showed he’s one of the best young players in the 757, and he could potential move off this list of “bigs” and onto the list of “wings” as he continues to develop. He has a long and wiry frame and looks like he still has room to grow physically, he’s versatile as an inside-out scorer, he moves his feet well and can switch and guard multiple positions and he plays with a good motor as well.
6) Silas Barksdale Silas Barksdale 6'7" | PF Woodside | 2025 State #176 Nation VA | 6’8” PF | Woodside (#12 Overall)
Barksdale is a high ceiling big man with good potential moving forward, as he has great size and an above average athlete who is just scratching the surface with how good he can be in the future. He runs the floor well and has good hands to catch and finish above the rim, he can rebound well on both ends and pursues the basketball hard and he has soft touch around the rim and can finish over other big men.
5) Jordan McConnell Jordan McConnell 6'10" | C Phillips Exeter Academy | 2025 State VA | 6’10” C | Woodberry Forest (#8 Overall)
A native of New Hampshire, McConnell has huge potential moving forward with his size and touch both in the paint and on the perimeter, and he has a lot of things coaches will like already. He has great hands to catch passes and lobs, he has good feet to be able to pivot and finish over the shoulder and he looks to finish above the rim in the paint when he can. His ability to step out and stretch the floor will separate him at his size, he is a good rim protector and as he grows into his body he will become more mobile and agile too.
4) Martez Harris Martez Harris 6'10" | PF Cape Henry | 2025 State #269 Nation VA | 6’8” PF | Cape Henry (#5 Overall)
Harris went through a crazy growth spurt over the past few years as he was a 6’4” wing when he was coming up and now stands at least 6’8” with a unique skillset, and he’s still trying to figure out how to play at this size. He has good touch out to the three-point line and can take and make contested shots with his size, he’s great in the mid-post area where he can hit the fall-away and he can play above the rim as well. As he continues to learn and develop his game to his new height he’ll continue to see his stock rise moving forward.
3) Jaquan Womack Jaquan Womack 6'7" | PF Paul VI | 2025 State #284 Nation VA | 6’6” PF | Paul VI (#4 Overall)
Womack is part of a very young and talented PVI front court, and when it comes to versatility he has the most on this talented group. At 6’6” he’s a walking mismatch as he’s strong enough to post or catch on cuts and finish through contact, he can step out on the perimeter where he can make shots from deep and put it on the deck and he is able to move his feet and guard multiple positions too. He attacks the glass hard and can use his physical strength to overpower players, and he can play the 3-5 depending on the lineup they want to throw out there.
2) Kareem Stagg Kareem Stagg 6'8" | PF IMG | 2025 State #399 Nation FL | 6’7” PF | Oscar Smith (#2 Overall)
Stagg has some of the most impressive physical and athletic tools of anyone on this list, and he continues to get taller and has perhaps the highest ceiling of anyone in this class. He’s an elite rim protector with great length and timing and can block shots against taller players, he runs the floor with guards and wings and he’s a big time rebounder on both ends in and out of his area. He’s a big time athlete who can play above the rim and he has shown improvement in his ability to make shots in the midrange and create his own shot in the post and on face ups.
1) Christian Gurdak Christian Gurdak 6'9" | C Gonzaga | 2025 State #156 Nation MD | 6’10” C | Paul VI (#1 Overall)
“Big Country” as we nicknamed him as a rising freshman at DMV Live a few years ago, Gurdak is an absolute load in the paint and already dominates down low with his size and efficiency. Gurdak has a throwback style offensively as he can bury guys deep in the paint and can feel their bodies and spin the right way for easy buckets, he has super glue hands that catch everything whether it’s entries or dump offs or tough rebounds in traffic and he’s able to use his strength to finish through contact regularly and easily. He has soft touch around the basket and showing he can extend his range and hit his free throws, and he’s starting to slim up making him more mobile and a more athletic finisher around the rim. If he continues to trend in this direction he’ll be one of the top big men prospects on the east coast in a few years.
