Continue ReadingThe KABC is hosting two tournaments during the live period weekend, in this article I’ll be breaking down the top guards from Ohio for college programs to watch at the KABC Shootout. This is a live period hosted in Shelbyville, Kentucky from June 17th-19th. Teams from Ohio committed to the event include Cincinnati Hughes, Princeton, Lakota East, Fairfield, Preble Shawnee, Toledo Central Catholic, Hamilton and Huber Heights Wayne.
Keven Adorno Keven Adorno 5'10" | PG Princeton | 2023 State OH , 5’10 PG Princeton 2024: Adorno is now with Princeton after playing his last two seasons at Dohn Prep. Adorno has also been a national team member for Puerto Rico at different age groups. Adorno is a skilled point guard who can change pace quickly and is tough to stop in the pick and roll. Adorno is a prospect I haven’t caught in person in about a year so it’ll be good to check him out again and see where he now stacks up with the best of the best in Ohio.
Jaiden Arnold Jaiden Arnold 5'10" | PG Cincinnati Aiken | 2025 State OH , 5’10 PG Princeton 2025: Arnold is one of the top scoring guards in the state in his class, using his impressive quickness and touch from the mid-range and floater area. Arnold has had some big games with Midwest 3SSB 15 U this spring and will look to continue to prove his talent in front of college coaches this weekend.
Trey Perry Trey Perry 6'1" | PG Lakota East | 2025 State OH , 5’10 PG Lakota East 2025: Perry is a tough point guard who brings defense and rebounding at a rate much better than his size would indicate. I love what Perry brings to the game outside of scoring and how he impacts winning. Perry is so advanced, he’s now playing with Midwest 3SSB 16 U, playing up an age group. I’m incredibly high on Perry’s ability to impact the game on both ends of the court.
Jack Kronauge Jack Kronauge 6'1" | SG St Xavier | 2023 State OH , 6’2 SG Lakota East 2023: Kronauge is a shot-maker from long range and brings good passing skills from the off-guard position. Kronauge has been a varsity impact player for multiple seasons and this year the lights will shine brightest on him to lead the Thunderhawks to a potential GMC conference title. I expect Division II programs to make Kronauge a priority this summer and a strong performance this weekend could get the ball rolling for his recruitment.
Deshawne Crim Deshawne Crim 6'2" | PG Fairfield | 2023 State OH , 6’0 PG Fairfield 2023: Crim is another tough point guard who brings toughness to whatever team he plays on. Crim looks to get downhill with his dribble-drive game. Crim is an inconsistent shooter from the outside but has had occasional stretches where he’s made shots off the bounce. Crim will take an even larger role for Fairfield after the graduation of Logan Woods as the Indians try and replicate their district title winning season in 2022-23.
Kameron Sanders Kameron Sanders 6'3" | PG Fairfield | 2025 State OH , 5’11 PG Fairfield 2025: Sanders is a bit of an unknown as he didn’t get the opportunity to make much of an impact at the varsity level as a freshman. Saunders has gotten some publicity due to his defensive ability and feel for the game at his age. Sanders is one of the players I’m most excited to watch this weekend.
Makhi Leach Makhi Leach 6'2" | SG Toledo Whitmer | 2025 State OH , 6’2 SG Toledo Central Catholic 2025: Leach is a super athletic wing guard who jumps out the gym and has long arms as well. A super athlete, Leach is starting to develop more of a well-balanced offensive skill set. Leach has had a couple nice moments for Bates Fundamentals 15 U on the EYBL circuit and could take a larger role with Toledo Central Catholic this winter.
Cooper Matthews Cooper Matthews 6'0" | CG Hamilton | 2023 State OH , 6’0 CG Hamilton 2023: Matthews is a talented scorer who had a big spring on the Prep Hoops Circuit with R4L. Matthews was one of the top scorers in the GMC as a Junior and has a chance to lead the conference in scoring as a senior. Matthews is a bit undersized for a combo guard, but his scoring talent will translate to the college level.
Lawrent Rice Lawrent Rice 6'4" | PG Huber Heights Wayne | 2023 State #184 Nation OH , 6’3 PG Huber Heights Wayne 2023: Rice is the most sought-after Ohio prospect playing at this event with numerous offers from high major programs. Rice had an improved winter shooting the ball from the outside for Huber Heights Wayne but hasn’t had the same success shooting on the EYBL circuit. Rice is a good play-maker with the size to see over the defense and make passes with either hand. Rice also has the physical tools to be a high-impact defensive prospect and could thrive in and up-tempo system at the next level.
