Bailey Temming (2024) Fenwick
Temming was one of my favorite prospects from last Friday as his frame and style of play really stood out comparatively. At 6-foot-8, Temming has plenty of length and creates quite a few mismatches out on the perimeter. Temming has played much like a wing in the past, but I felt Friday he was doing much more on the blocks. Got his shoulders squared to the rim and powered through contact. While Temming has plenty of talent currently, I will want to see him really hone in on defending the post as he allowed several post entries and picked up fouls trying to block initial shots.
Jaylen Payne (2023) Medina
Payne is slightly undersized at 6-foot-5, but his framework and physicality allowed him to perform well against a bigger defender in Bailey Temming and Fenwick. Payne utilized the shot fake and squaring up to draw fouls on the block. Payne’s postups were clean and solid. He will need to improve in his ball control on the block and have stronger hands against help side reaches.
Derek Jackson Derek Jackson 6'6" | PF Lakota East | 2024 State OH (2024) Lakota East
Lakota East was down quite a few guys at camp and Jackson turned out to be one of the better players. A transfer from crosstown rival Lakota West, Jackson debuted for the Thunderbirds and showed fundamental understandings on the low post. Jackson was head and shoulders bigger than anyone Amanda-Clearcreek had on their roster and had little issues scoring through contact. Kept the ball at his chin and protected the ball.
MJ Jackson (2025) Columbus Academy
Jackson was an impressive sophomore and formed a solid 1-2 punch with teammate Theo Falkenheim (2025). Jackson has a stout frame but runs the floor perfectly fine. Undersized for a big but at the Division III level, Columbus Academy won’t see a ton of taller bigs until deeper in tournament. Soft touch around the rim and found open spacing on drives by the guards. With this being my first time seeing Jackson, I’m optimistic the Vikings have a good one in him and have a bright next few years.
