With players from Washington, Oregon, and Idaho in the West Coast Clash, there was plenty of talent to watch. Day 2 gave an opportunity for more talent to be showcased; these players from the 16U division stood out from the pack.
Braydon Olson Braydon Olson 6'2" | CG Mark Morris | 2024 State WA – 6’1 – ECBA/Mark Morris
Olson is a competitor, and he gets buckets from everywhere. He played well off his teammates. When he caught it on the wing, he was effective out of triple threat and didn’t need many dribbles to find buckets at the rim. He loves to jump-stop and did it often in traffic. While Olson was best getting to the bucket, he had a smooth jumper that he knocked down when given space.
Tait Spencer Tait Spencer 6'3" | SG Great Futures Prep | 2025 State WA – 6’2 CG – PNW Sixers/Battle Ground
Spencer was one of the best sophomores I saw today. The guard showed maturity amongst his peers. He knew when to score and when to get his teammates involved. He showed off his vision with an ability to make kick-out passes to his shooters or dump off dimes to his big men. The most impressive part of Spencer’s game was his craftiness around the bucket with either hand. He could very well become one of the top players in his class.
Matt Lindblom (’25) – 6’1 PG – Roots/Olympia
Lindblom was a standout despite his team falling short when I was courtside. He is a score-first guard who was best in open space. He got downhill a lot and it seemed to be easy with his super-quick first step. It is always nice to see young guards be effective at getting to the basket while keeping it simple. Lindblom had a great second half without trying to do too much.
Kane Wood – 6’5 SF – ECBA/Seattle Christian
It isn’t hard to stand out when you are noticeably stronger than your competition but Wood had the game to go along with his size. Wood was having a field day on the offensive glass in his game against ECBA. He had a natural knack for cleaning up the glass and getting easy putbacks. Wood is also a great screener and got a ton of looks at the rim rolling to the basket.
Josiah Asuega (’25) – 6’5 PF – Seahawks Elite/South Kitsap
Asuega is one of two freshmen on this list, and he is well-deserving. Although he was playing up, I had no idea until I was trying to figure out who he was. His size made him a man amongst boys even in 16U The young man had great feet in the post and when defending on the perimeter. Around the cup, he was comfortable finishing over either shoulder.
