The Battle At The Lakes is in the books. It was quite the weekend of hoops! In this article, we are taking a look back at the special players from Saturday afternoon/evening. We have 22 players in this article ranging from North Dakota, South Dakota, Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota. Read below to see who made the list...

22 Special Players from Saturday PM

[player_tooltip player_id="1161524" first="Daniel" last="Yorke"] (2024) |6’0 G| Bears Tail Basketball 2024

Early in the game, he showed awesome footwork on a transition finish. Yorke was bumped by the defense, but kept his balance and finished the basket. Dan has great agility and coordination. I liked his ability to finish with his inside hand and how he can adjust to the defense on the fly. Yorke showed a high-quality mid-range pull-up and he passed the ball well to cutting teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id="1161538" first="Dalton" last="Lamp"] (2024) |6’1 G| Bears Tail Basketball 2024

He is a very confident player with a ton of skill. He showed a great pull-up jumper from mid-range and from beyond the arc. Lamp can get his shot off almost any time that he wants. He showed keen anticipation skills by picking off passes. Just before halftime, Dalton drilled a big 3-pointer to tie up the score 31-31. I thought his hesitation move was great. Lamp threw a beautiful behind-the-back pass in transition that set up a teammate for a wide-open layup.

[player_tooltip player_id="1401336" first="Erick" last="Paye"] (2024) |6’5 F| Bears Tail Basketball 2024

The big man can do it all! Paye is strong, muscular, and athletic. Erick even hit a 3-pointer, I did not know that he had that in his bag of tricks. On defense, Erick picked off passes, protected the rim, and altered many other shots. On one play, Paye went up to block a shot and he hammered the ball off the backboard like it was a volleyball. I loved how he fought for the ball and got tips to teammates to gain an extra possession. Erick showed off his athleticism with impressive Slams. He had multiple powerful/monster dunks in transition. Paye is a special athlete!

[player_tooltip player_id="1179065" first="John" last="Angau"] (2024) |6’1 G| Bears Tail Basketball 2024

He looks and plays bigger than 6’1. Agnau has a long wingspan. He put on a shooting clinic on Saturday night. John hit a handful of big triples in the second half to help Bears Tail pick up the win. He is a timely and clutch shooter. Agnau shoots it with great balance and his follow-through is textbook. This kid is not afraid of taking a big shot!

[player_tooltip player_id="1437303" first="Brogan" last="Madson"] (2025) |5’10 G| MN Rise 2023

This lefty is a bucket maker and a crafty guard. He showed multiple slick finger-rolls with defenders all around him. Madson can snake through the defense on the way to the rim, it seemed like there was no room but he found a way. Besides being an elusive slasher, Brogan can hit the 3-ball with a soft shot. He was also effective in the ball-screen game. I like how Madson came off the screen, drew attention, and threw back to the screener for a pick-n-pop three-pointer.

[player_tooltip player_id="962279" first="Zach" last="Anderson"] (2023) |6’6 F| MN Rise 2023

He easily stood out as a sleek and successful three-point shooter. Anderson hit multiple triples in the first half and the second. His shot looks effortless and easy. There is no wasted movement in his shooting motion. Zach has extended shooting range and he knows how to get open. With his long arms and good length, Anderson does not need much room to get his shot off.

[player_tooltip player_id="1295267" first="Gavin" last="Muirhead"] (2023) |6’7 F| Pentagon Schoolers 2023 Walker

He had another impressive game where he played and finished above the rim. Gavin had multiple dunks and alley-oop finishes. His best one may have been in transition when his OG teammate [player_tooltip player_id="963746" first="Matt" last="Eng"] lobbed up a dim and Muirhead flushed it home. Gavin made other impressive plays like cutting for buckets and finishing with creative reverse layups. I also like how he attacks the ball when it is coming off the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="963746" first="Matt" last="Eng"] (2023) |6’2 G| Pentagon Schoolers 2023 Walker

Much like every other time I watch him, Eng was smoking hot from beyond the arc. He is equally impressive off the dribble and in catch-n-shoot situations. Matt’s shooting form is perfect with no wasted movement, Eng is as pure as they come. He showed off his range with a stylish college-range pull-up. He also showed an exceptional lob pass to Muirhead for a WHAM. Eng will also slash to the bucket when the defense overcrowds him. It was another great day for Eng.

[player_tooltip player_id="1390906" first="Zander" last="Benz"] (2023) |6’10 F| Pentagon Schoolers 2023 Walker

First of all, this kid works his tail off on both ends of the floor. Benz rebounded really well yesterday afternoon and I like how he high points the ball. He fought for rebounds all game and he grabbed multiple O-boards. Benz has shifty moves and footwork around the basket. Zander has a smooth baby hook shot from 6-feet, he shoots it with a soft touch. I like that he can finish with both hands around the hoop. Benz runs the floor hard and he was rewarded with points in transition.

Amaree Brown (2024) |6’2 G| Illinois Hoop Stars 2024

He stuck out as a dangerous offensive threat on Saturday evening. Brown nailed a smooth pull-up 3-pointer. Later on, Amaree had a tough drive through a sea of white jerseys and he finished with a contested layup. He made the bucket with a high-arcing shot that went over the defender’s outstretched arms. Brown is a creative player!

[player_tooltip player_id="1270361" first="Lane" last="Tietz"] (2024) |6-0 G| Sacred Hoops 2024 Kahler

He had a very nice Friday night and on Saturday evening Tietz was off the charts! This was one of the best games of his young career. Lane scored 31 points with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Lane hit three triples and he got to the charity stripe a ton. I knew him mainly as a three-point shooter. After this weekend, I have learned that Tietz is a pure scorer that can get it done in many ways. Get the kid from Groton on your watchlist!

[player_tooltip player_id="1266275" first="Nic" last="Marshall"] (2024) |6’1 G| Sacred Hoops 2024 Kahler

In the game that I watched the star from White River scored 18 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, had 2 steals, and dished out 1 assist. This kid seems to live in the paint. He is constantly slashing and penetrating into the heart of the defense. Marshall is a playmaker in the paint. I love his pull-up game. Nic is a smart player that makes clever decisions. He showed a great baseline drive and he dropped a sweet pass to Big Dog #24 for a bucket. Nic is a cool customer and a very skilled ballplayer.

Brandon Kjetland (2024) |6’6 PF| Sacred Hoops 2024 Kahler

This was my first time seeing the big beast from Canistota. Kjetland is big, thick, and strong. Early in the game on Saturday evening, Kjetland was dominant on the O-glass. He grabbed many boards and Brandon scored on putbacks. The BIG man showed off his strength with an AND1 muscle-finish. He is a gritty and blue-collar player. Kjetland helped his Sacred Hoops team go 4-0 this weekend. It was a great start to the AAU season!

[player_tooltip player_id="963775" first="Jackson" last="Edman"] Sacred Hoops 17U Bertram

The big and athletic lefty had one of the best dunks from Saturday. The opposing player attempted to take a charge, Edman paid no bother and went up and dunked over him. He didn’t just dunk on the kid, he was also fouled and Jackson picked up the AND1. Talk about a powerful and explosive player! In that same game, Jackson scored 22 points, had 12 rebounds, and dropped 6 assists. College coaches need to get out and see Mr. Edman!

[player_tooltip player_id="1421530" first="Layke" last="Wold"] (2025) |5’10 G| Sacred Hoops 2025 Edman

The youngster from Chester had a highly productive 2 games on Saturday. In his first game, Layke dropped 20 points with 6 three-pointers and he grabbed 6 rebounds. In his second game, Layke scored 20 points again with 6 more triples, and he dished out 5 assists. Talk about a nice day for the freshman! It was a great start to the AAU season for the young stud. Remember this name [player_tooltip player_id="1421530" first="Layke" last="Wold"]!

[player_tooltip player_id="1265221" first="JT" last="Rock"] (2024) |7’1 C| SD Attack

He was owning the boards on Friday night. He was obviously the tallest player on the court but JT does a great job of tracking the ball and maneuvering himself into a favorable position so he can snatch the ball. On defense, Rock was swatting shots like they were mosquitoes on a hot summer night. If he didn’t block it, Rock altered the shot. I thought he was great at delivering outlet passes quickly and accurately to the Attack guards. He also showed a beautiful underhand dish to a cutting teammate. His 3-point jumper was impressive. JT shoots it fluid as if he was a 6’5 wing instead of a 7’ center. It was easy to see why Rock is a big-time recruit!

Asher Wade (2024) |6’7 PF| Iowa Barnstormers 2024 Gold

He is a strong and very active forward. I like how he went directly at the 7-footer from the other team, he never backed down from the tower that he was going against. Asher is very physical, he plays with passion and an edge. He is a physical cutter that will get to his spot even if the defense is in his way. Wade also looked good passing the ball, when he did not have the advantage he moved the rock. I liked that Asher posted up hard and that he was patient in the post when he got the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="1171655" first="Treyton" last="McCain"] (2024) |6’1 G| Iowa Barnstormers 2024 Gold

This Stormer was one of my favorite players from this weekend in the 16U division. McCain is a fleet-footed guard that can stop on a dime for a pull-up J any time that he chooses. Treyton stuck out to me as a lethal shooter from deep and from midrange. He is super quick and Treyton seems to move better than most around him. McCain can shift in a different gear to blow-by defenders. Treyton has a bright future.

[player_tooltip player_id="1256297" first="TaeVeon" last="Stevens"] (2024) |5’10 G| Iowa Barnstormers 2024 Gold

He is a spark plug on the basketball court. Stevens is ultra-quick in everything that he does. He is a slasher that had many tough off-balance finishes at the rim. TaeVon showed excellent body control and hang time. Stevens threw a marvelous one-handed lefty bounce pass off the dribble to a cutting big man for a basket. It was likely the best pass that I saw all weekend!

[player_tooltip player_id="1194000" first="Ruhan" last="Jordan"] (2023) |6’1 G| Minnesota Heat 2023 MacDonald

I watched him play last summer and I liked what I saw from Ruhan. He is now a bigger and stronger version of himself. Jordan is lightning quick with blow-by speed. He shifts gears quickly and changes speeds to keep defenders off balance. On defense, Jordan is a pesky on-ball defender and he moves his feet well. Jordan has nice balls skills and he is a creative slasher.

Collin Mulholland (2023) |6’10 PF| Minnesota Heat 2023 MacDonald

He has great size at 6’10" and his arms never end. The big man had a nice game with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Collin showed a sweet turnaround baby hook and a couple of dunks. Collin can attack off the bounce and finish creatively. He also showed the ability to stretch the floor. Mulholland knocked down two triples in the game that I saw. Collin is also an unselfish passer out of the post. Mulholland is versatile, a tough matchup, and a skilled big man.

[player_tooltip player_id="1161947" first="Joshua" last="Ofori"] (2023) |6’8 F| Minnesota Heat 2023 MacDonald

He never missed a shot in the game that I watched and he went 8-8 from the field. Ofori is a high flyer! He had an impressive alley-oop finish in transition that showed great hang time. Joshua has long arms, he runs the floor hard, and he is a rim protector. Ofori is long, athletic, and he is efficient. What more could you want from a player?
