Tietz and Groton Area nearly upset the state champions in the opening round, with a one-point loss to Hamlin. He was receiving a great amount of defensive attention. A high motor and great conditioning. Spirit of Su and is off to Dakota State to play.

Tietz and Groton Area (#1 seed) take on #5 seed Aberdeen Roncalli. It’s a heated rivalry game and Roncalli is looking for an upset. Tietz is known as one of the best scorers and shooters in Class A, but his pressure defense and tenacity on that end cannot be ignored. I’m not sure anyone in Class A wants to see Groton on the schedule because they can beat anyone, and Tietz can change and dictate a game on both ends. Groton previously beat Aberdeen Roncalli by 11 points earlier in the season at home. But these teams are different teams now. Tietz comes to play in big games, including a 29-point game in massive win against Dakota Valley.

The Dakota State signee gave huge effort on the court. You can tell he wanted this one. His full-court defensive pressure on the opposing ball-handler was constant and aggressive. He was making it hard on them and made them work. Offensively, he was experiencing some high-intensity on-ball defense from Dakota Valley. But I think he played within the game and didn’t force much. 13 points for the Senior.

The Dakota State University commit was a difference-maker as usual with 22 points in the game. He had 10 points in the 2nd quarter to really get Groton going. Lane scored from deep, got to the hoop and finished, and got in the lane to kick out to teammates. Did a nice job moving without the ball with quick, precise cuts. He showed a complete offensive arsenal and was also active defensively, guarding the ball tightly.
