Fifth Place: Sioux Valley
Sixth Place: Pine Ridge
Seventh Place: Groton Area
Eighth Place: Vermillion
Squires was a warrior in the interior. Played 6’10 and was strong and aggressive. Thought he showed some legit physicality. Boarded the heck out of the ball. High motor to round out his profile. Teams were bringing multiple bodies at him.
Game 1 – 18 points (8-13 FG) – 14 rebounds – 4 assists – 3 blocks
Game 2 – 31 points (10-15 FG) (11-13 FT) – 12 rebounds – 2 assists – 2 blocks
Game 3 – 21 points (9-10 FG) – 17 rebounds – 2 assists – 1 block
Richard III has all the offensive freedom a guard like him desires and deserves. It allows him to put up big scoring games and be an aggressive playmaker, creator, shooter, and passer. He has suddenness and explosion to his game in the open court in transition, as well as in the half court. Only a Sophomore, Richard III averaged 23 ppg. in the regular season. Put up 30 points in the opening game up against Dakota Valley. He did more than score in the state tournament. He’s a playmaking passer that sets his teammates up nicely for buckets. One of the more entertaining guards to watch in the state.
Game 1 – 30 points (10-21 FG) (4-10 3FG) – 4 rebounds – 3 assists – 3 steals
Game 2 – 19 points – (6-16 FG) (2-7 3FG) – 13 rebounds – 7 assists – 1 block
Game 3 – 19 points – (6-18 FG) (3-11 3FG) – 3 rebounds – 4 assists – 1 steal
Engebretson showed a scorer’s mentality and a nice offensive skill set. A fluid and quick pull-up game and can easily get his three off.
Game 1 – 20 points (7-23 FG) (3-8 3 FG) – 5 assists
Game 2 – 13 points (5-12 FG) – 3 steals
Game 3 – 7 points (3-10 FG) – 4 rebounds – 3 assists – 3 steals
Tietz and Groton Area nearly upset the state champions in the opening round, with a one-point loss to Hamlin. He was receiving a great amount of defensive attention. A high motor and great conditioning. Spirit of Su and is off to Dakota State to play.
Game 1 – 12 points (4-16 FG) (2-8 3FG) – 6 rebounds – 3 assists – 1 block – 4 steals
Game 2 – 11 points – (3-12 FG) – 3 rebounds – 4 assists – 5 steals
Game 3 – 25 points (10-19 FG) (3-8 3FG) – 6 rebounds – 4 assists – 3 steals
Rouillard is a major threat from three and he doesn’t shy away from firing them up when he gets a chance. A high percentage of his shot attempts come from deep, so he’s stretching the floor and living and dying from the three-point line. He was 14 of 32 from three in the tournament, so he was shooting it well. A key piece to Pine Ridge’s success.
