Here are seven of the top 17U prospects that college coaches should keep an eye on in Indy this weekend:
Levi Birkholz Levi Birkholz 5'2" | SG Lakeside Luthersn | 2023 State #290 Nation WI — SG — Wisconsin Crusaders
I have a feeling that this could be a breakout moment for Birkholz. The shooting guard performed very well during the AAU season in 2021, and I am once again expecting big things from the Wisconsin Crusaders standout. An athletic prospect who can play above the rim, Birkholz uses his physical gifts to dominate on the court. With college coaches watching, I am looking for Birkholz to elevate his play and be better than ever before.
Blaise Porter Blaise Porter 6'1" | PG New London | 2023 State #298 Nation IA — PG — Iowa Barnstormers Gold
Already holding a couple of Division One scholarship offers, Porter heads into the live period with the hopes of picking up some more. The 6-foot-2 point guard is a do-it-all player. He is dynamic as a scorer, fantastic as a passer, and a more than willing rebounder. Look for Porter to really make a name for himself this weekend in Indianapolis.
Dallas Bear Dallas Bear 6'8" | SF Cedar Falls | 2023 State #276 Nation IA — SF — Iowa Barnstormers Gold
Ranked as a top three prospect in Iowa’s 2023 class, Bear will enter the weekend looking to solidify his spot as one of the best prospects in his state. The 6-foot-8 small forward is a deadly shooter who puts a lot of pressure on opposing teams with his shooting ability. In the paint he is able to use his size and skill to score in many different ways.
Max Shikenjanski Max Shikenjanski 6'2" | PG Stillwater | 2023 State #288 Nation MN — SG — Minnesota Fury Antl
Shikenjanski is a prospect that could be in for a special AAU season. The shooting guard is a very gifted scorer who routinely puts up big time scoring numbers. Very skilled as a shooter and slasher, Shikenjanski is capable of taking over a game when he gets hot. The SG is not just a scorer, though. He is also a willing passer that looks to get teammates open shots.
Khalif Bettis Khalif Bettis 6'6" | SF Burnsville | 2023 State MN — SF — MN Chill
Mid major Division one programs should keep an eye on Bettis this weekend. The small forward is a versatile prospect that is able to play multiple positions with ease. On defense, he is able to use his athleticism and quick hands to create turnovers, which often lead to easy transition buckets. On offense, Bettis is a true three-level scorer that is able to score in many different ways.
Emmett Lawton Emmett Lawton 6'2" | SG Notre Dame Academy | 2023 State WI — G — Team 1848
Lawton is a sleeper guard in Wisconsin’s 2023 class who I expect to gain some college interest in the near future. Playing for Team 1848, Lawton made a name for himself last summer. Now, the guard is returning with the hope of snagging some offers. Lawton is a very good shooter and passer who is able to do some special things on the offensive end of the court.
Jamisen Young Jamisen Young 6'0" | PG Sunrise Christian Academy | 2023 KS — PG — World Hoops Elite
I really like how Young’s game has developed over the years. Previously, he primarily relied on speed and athleticism. But now, the point guard has improved his ball-handling skills and shooting touch. Coming off a productive high school season, look for Young to keep the momentum rolling and have a great spring.
