One player who has seen his recruitment pickup since the regular season ended is Rodney Brown Rodney Brown 6'6" | CG Rancho Christian | 2023 State #163 Nation CA-S of Rancho Christian High School.
From the class of 2024, Brown had a couple of offers before the live period from Cal, USC, UCSB and Washington State. He had also heard from Princeton, Stanford and UC San Diego.
Following last weekend, he picked up offers from Pepperdine and Tennessee. As the summer arrives, it’s safe to say he’ll pick up some more offers and when it comes time to choosing where he’ll play after high school, he wants more than just a place he fits in on the court.
“Just somewhere where I fit in, somewhere where it feels like a family,” Brown told Prep Hoops. “But also where I’ll be able to play my game. I just want it to feel like a family.”
Brown is an athletic guard with nice ball-handling ability. He looks comfortable with the ball in his hands in the halfcourt creating his own shot. He is also able to bring the ball up court under defensive pressure.
His main focus right now though in terms of improving his game is hitting the weight room. He has a slender build and has room to put on some muscle.
“For me right now I’m trying to get my body right,” Brown said. “I think I need to gain some pounds and that will help me a lot.”
To go along with his ball handling skills, Brown has a very good shot with consistent range out to the three-point line. He’s able to hit pull-up jumpers in the midrange and if the defense takes away his shot, he can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim.
This summer, he’s playing with West Coast Elite on their SoCal 17U roster and his main focus is just getting better as a player.
“My strengths I would definitely say my shooting ability and I’m able to pass it,” Brown said. “Honestly I just want to get better, get some more looks. The main thing is just keep improving.”
This past season, Rancho Christian finished 8-17 and at one point had a six game losing streak. But Brown has reason for optimism when the regular season rolls around in the winter.
“We were missing some guys, so I think next year it’s going to be so much better,” Brown said. “We’re going to work next year and have a much better season.”
