Although the Beavers went two-and-out at Chiles, the lanky 6-foot, 155-pound combo guard was one of the bright spots with his play. He did his thing and hit shots and it wound up being something he’ll never forget.
“It was a super cool experience even though we weren’t able to win any games,” Rice said. “I feel like the experience will help us with coming years, so hopefully we can come back next year and get some wins.”
If there’s one thing Rice proved at the state tournament, it’s that he can shoot the ball from distance. He scored 33 points in Beaverton’s two games, with a high of 20 against South Medford in the consolation round. He hit a total of nine threes, which ranked second to only Jackson Shelstad Jackson Shelstad 6'0" | PG West Linn | 2023 State #55 Nation OR in the entire tournament and it was clear that Rice was playing some of his best basketball at the end of the year.
“The start of the season I was a little timid and I wasn’t really playing the way I’m used to playing,” Rice said. “But as the season went on I built a lot more confidence in myself, so once I get that first shot going I’m not really stopping.”
This off-season, Rice has been playing baseball but also plans on getting some club hoops in with ONE basketball. The sophomore knows he’s got room to improve with his game and his frame. “I’m working out every day, just trying to get better,” Rice said. “I want to get more shifty with my handle and also shooting off the dribble.”
It’s a little early for him in terms of college recruitment, but it’s hard not to see him evolving into a prospect with his skill set and frame – one that could easily hold additional weight and muscle. As far as high school ball goes, he likes how it looks as well.
“I think we have a really bright future with Brady Rice Brady Rice 6'2" | SG Beaverton | 2023 State OR , my cousin, Max Elmgren Max Elmgren 6'0" | CG Beaverton | 2024 State OR – Brady will be a senior next year and Max and I will be juniors,” Rice said. “I think we’ll make a big impact next year.”
Rice is currently on the watchlist in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2024 rankings.
