Continue ReadingThe Pec6 League was established in 2013 by coaches Les Bean and William Middlebrooks. The goal of the league is to provide an opportunity for Post Grad players, by providing a credible, compliant governing body on the West Coast. This year the League featured 3 session stops, in three different cities. Phoenix, (AZ) January 15th – 17th, Chino (CA) February 4-6, and San Diego March 11th-13th. The league features 5 post-grad programs.
Future College Prep is one of the charter members and the longest-running program of them all. Originally established in 2011, with the mission of providing Non Ranked athletes a platform to develop. A decade later, nearly 50+ student-athletes have received full basketball scholarships. The program has produced several players who have gone on to play big-time college basketball, including Ron Freeman (Kansas St/Long Beach St) Brian Angola, (Florida, ST), and Victor Sanders (Idaho). After taking time off, FCP and coach Les Bean are back, filled with a loaded roster of talented future prospects. In this article, we profile Future College Prep.
Marcell Gallaway 5’10 PG 2022 – Gallaway is a shifty PG with game. He has to be the best pullup shooter that I’ve seen this year. He’s shown that he can make a living with his ability to get into the lane, raise up, and consistently knock down shots. He doesn’t shoot as many threes, he still managed to shoot them at an over 33% clip. Gallaway finished the season second in assists on the team, with just over 3 per game.
Darius Mcclain 6’6 SG 2022 (featured image) – When you absolutely need a bucket, McClain is the guy to call. The smooth scorer is more than capable of putting up a “quiet” 20. His best skill may be his corner 3 point shooting ability, however, he can do more. McClain is an above-average athlete, capable of finishing in transition, and he can also create for himself off the bounce in 1 v 1 situations. Has the potential to be a high-quality 3 and D guy at the next level.
Sedric Curry 6’9 C 2022 – Curry is a powerful body, that bangs on the interior. He brings a hard hat mentality and is the glue guy that every successful team needs. The big man’s best skill is his ability to rebound in traffic, and he is fine with sacrificing his body by taking a charge or getting on the floor for loose balls. Curry was one of the teams leading rebounders, averaging over 9 per game.
Stephant Njitap 6’4 SF 2022 – Njitap is one of several international players participating in the league. He had his ups and downs throughout the season, but he plays hard, and when he had his ups you could see the talent. He can score using 1 v 1 moves but also showed a willingness to mix it up and find garbage buckets.
Sleeper:
Damien Parker 6’0 PG 2022 – Any program looking for a heady, high IQ PG is going to want to take a look at Parker. The PG understands how to play the position and is terrific with his decision-making. He does a good job of knowing when it’s time for him to get a shot, or when a teammate needs a touch. Parker brings more than just a cerebral game to the table. He is a good shooter who showed the ability to knock down the three-ball, knocking down 43 of them on the season.
Top Prospect:
Nehemiah Johnson 6’6 SF 2022 – Johnson is the best at what may be the toughest skill in basketball, rebounding. The 6’6 forward is a magnet to the ball coming off the glass. He’s a terrific athlete, but he also accomplishes it with sheer determination. The bouncy forward can go get the ball out of area or in traffic. In addition to his rebounding his ability to defend the paint also and score around the bucket make him a valuable prospect. He led the squad in both scoring and rebounding, earning him the top prospect spot on the squad.
